Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAY SMITH August 23, 1932- June 22, 2014 It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of May Smith (nee Panting) at the Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the age of 81 years. Predeceased by her husband Frank, parents Arthur and Valentine Panting, brother Harry and sister Agnes. Remaining behind to cherish May's memory are her only daughter Carol Shewchuk and husband Bud, and her beloved grandchildren, Kyle (Danielle) and Kelsie (Logan). She is also survived by her brother Tom (Francis), two sisters Bella and Nora (Brian), and several nephews and nieces, whom she loved very much. For those who knew "Grandma May", she was full of life and very dedicated to the lives of the people around her. She spent many good times around the hockey rink watching her grandson play, or watching her granddaughter dancing and singing in the church choir. She loved spending time with our two dogs, Chase and Morgan. She had an enormous heart and was always more concerned about the people around her than herself. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren as she played such an important part in their lives. She lived with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren until the grandchildren were well into their adulthood. We are so grateful for everything she has done for all of us, and are disappointed that she will not be around to enjoy the next chapters in her grandchildren's lives. A couple of years ago May decided to take an exciting step in her life and moved out on her own to Kirchoff Gardens. May loved living at Kirchoff Gardens and made many great friends. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing carpet bowling and just sitting around chatting with her friends. We are so grateful to all her friends who were always there for her. A special thank you to our wonderful friends, Tom and Diane. Diane and May went out every Friday for lunch for over 20 years. Plus, when May was sick they supported her every step of the way. Friends like Tom and Diane are extremely rare, thank you for everything you have done. A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in May's name to CancerCare Manitoba. Hi Nora, sorry to hear of your sisters passing. Believe it or not I have thought of you a number of times over the years as I still remember meeting you in Vancouver many years ago. At the time I was not into family but since have been doing genealogy and as you are aware there is a family relationship. If you feel like it please dont hestitate to contact me by email, would love to hear how you have been doing. We are sort of step cousins I guess it would be. - Posted by: Dan Black () on: Aug 31, 2014

We enjoyed having May greeting us at the front door. She also enjoyed having coffee with our regular gang...she had such fun, laughing our jokes. She will be missed by all. - Posted by: Robert & Paulette Leclerc (Friends from Kirchhoff Gardens) on: Jun 26, 2014
