ANTONIA GENTILE (nee CELLITTI) July 18, 1939 June 29, 2014. With saddened hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Antonia Gentile, with family by her side, on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the age of 74. Antonia was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend we could have ever asked for and when she died, she went straight into the safe arms of Jesus. She was predeceased by her mother, father, and brothers Nunzio and Mario. She leaves to forever cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 53 years, Egidio; her children Rosa (Decio) Vacchio, Agapito (Angela) Gentile, Pina (Mark) Mandzik, Teresa (Lee) Senden; her eight grandchildren Nicole, Lorenzo, Erica, Simone, Bauer, Parker, Isaiah, Samuel; her sisters and brothers Carmela, Fernanda, Giuseppe (Lucia) and in Italy Palmina and Adele, and sister-in-law Luigina; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends in Canada and Italy. Antonia was born in Scanno, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1967. Antonia's family was most important to her. Antonia and Egidio spent 18 summers in Italy with family and friends, and if they weren't in Italy, they would spend their summers picnicking at the beach. Antonia enjoyed time with friends, playing card games and bocce ball. Nonna's grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved taking care of them when they were young. She was an amazing homemaker and cook and she loved to host and attend family gatherings. Antonia, a woman of deep faith, was a devout Catholic, and prayed for those who were in need. She always had a smile on her face, and was generous with her hugs and kisses. We are a close family as she brought us together for special occasions as well as Sunday get-togethers. There was always a plate of food ready and leftovers to take home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Horton and the staff on GH4 and GD5 at Health Sciences Centre for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, CancerCare Manitoba, or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday July 4, 2014 at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Avenue with Father Sam Argenziano the celebrant. Viewing begins at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street.
