MARGARET MARY MARSHALL It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret "Mac" Marshall (nee McDonald), our Mom, Nana and Great Nana, on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Lions Personal Care Centre "L.P.C.C." at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her husband Bill (William) Marshall and will be sadly missed by her children Lynn (Jim) Jarman, Bill Marshall, Lynda (Jerry) Bennett, Gail "Bobbie" Marshall (Harry Mueller) and Pat Marshall; her three grandsons Cory (Rosalie) Jarman, Kevin (Sheri) Jarman, and David (Joanna) Marshall; her three great-grandchildren Vayda, Jackson and Sarah Jarman, in addition to her sister Rita (George) Janzen and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was born in Saskatoon on June 25, 1922 to a large Irish Catholic family. The eldest daughter of Martin and Nellie (Egan) McDonald, she was predeceased by her sister Helen and six brothers Percy (Dorothy), Kenneth, Mervin, Ronald, Wilfred (Shirley) and Lionel (Johanna). Margaret was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force serving during the Second World War or as she would say "the big one." She processed new pilots into service in Yorkton, Winnipeg and Gimli, and it was at that point she developed her lifelong love of a "man in uniform." She met the love-of-her-life, Bill Marshall, at an air force canteen in Winnipeg. Bill and "Mac" as she was known to friends, were married in Saskatoon in 1948 and built a wonderful life together in Winnipeg raising five lively children. They lived on Home Street for more than 25 years. People gravitated to Margaret and everyone that met her liked her, wanted to be around her and always knew they would leave with a smile on their face. Anyone that knew Margaret knew of her love of children, sports, especially the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and professional curling, but her greatest love was being surrounded by her family. Margaret was a private, modest person and was the true matriarch of the family. She would often comment "I started all this" when reflecting upon large family gatherings. She touched many lives through her never ending kindness and was a quiet force in her own right. She never interfered and always encouraged each child to discover their own strengths and follow their own passions in life. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held Thursday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family extends their great appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff of L.P.C.C. where she lived for the past 22 months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Lions Personal Care Centre Recreational Department, 320 Sherbrook Street Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • The Parsons moved next door to the Marshall Family on August 30th, 1956. Who knew, on that day, we would share summer BBQ's, Sundays at the Oasis, hose fights, the birth of Pat, Christmas Eves, New Years Eves, Bomber games, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, the loss of loves ones and the list goes on. Fifty-eight years later, we share your loss for it is ours as well. It's highly unlikely we'll meet anyone like Mac Marshall again. She always said the best years were on Home St., and she was absolutely right - they were. Love you Mac. Marion and Sandra. - Posted by: Marion & Sandra Parsons (Lifelong friends) on: Jul 09, 2014
