NORMAN LAGIMODIERE It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Norm, at the age of 88, on July 13, 2014 at the Victoria General Hospital. Norm is survived by his wife, Barb; sister, Claudette, children Marlene (Alan), Lorne (Donna), Lisa (John), Alanna (Derrick), grandchildren Elliott (Kristel), Matthew, Chelsea, Meghan, Hannah, Brock; and numerous nieces and nephews. Norm was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Hester; brothers Donald, William, James; sisters Shirley Mae and Marguerite. Norm was born and raised in Lorette, MB. He was employed with Kane Equipment for 15 years. In April 1971 Case Power & Equipment opened a Winnipeg branch and Norm was General Manager until retiring in 1987. When asked why his branch was so successful, he always replied: "It's my people". One of Norm's greatest joys in life was Hare Island, Lake of the Woods where he spent leisure time with family and friends. Norm enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and always looked forward to four o'clock when he could have a rum and Pepsi. Norm and Barb travelled for many years and met great friends along the journey. Norm was a man of great strength and wisdom who had a very caring nature. He had a love for people and wildlife. He always made everyone feel welcome in his home. Norm had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh and play practical jokes. We were very fortunate to witness this just four days before he passed. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Sharkey for his words of wisdom and his sensitive, caring treatment of Norm and his family over the years. We would also like to thank the staff on 4North for their care and compassion for Norm and his family these last six weeks. In keeping with Norm's wishes, there will be no formal service. A private interment will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If one so desires, donations can be made in memory of Norm to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer Society or Victoria General Hospital Foundation. "Did you ever know that you're my hero, And everything I would like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle, For you are the wind beneath my wings. Thank you, thank you, Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings." The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Barb, So sorry to hear about Norm's passing. I met him about 20 years ago when he reached out to my dad, Norm's cousin, they rekindled their friendship from their youth and dad always looked forward to the visits he had from Norm and Barb. I am happy to have met him, he always had a smile on his face and was truly a good person, he will be missed. - Posted by: Guy Bissonnette () on: Jul 26, 2014

  • Loraine and I are very sorry for your loss of your father, and husband, Norm. Our prayers are for Barb, Lisa and Alanna, with a comment that we believe that Norm is in Heaven with Jesus Christ, and is without pain or any suffering, and will be that Guardian Angel, watching over you, and all his grandchildren. We know how much he loved his whole family, and demonstrated that sense of pride and affection, whenever the families gathered. We were sorry when Norm's health conditions slowed him down, from the things he so enjoyed, and that was events with any of the family. We know how he loved Barb, and if Norm was able, he would have loved to live to 100 years old. Life is complicated, we all know this, for all of us; but in death, there are two ways. Live a life of good will, and treat others as you would want to be treated, like being a good father, husband, uncle, grandfather and friend. That was Norm Lagimodiere, and he will get the rewards with Jesus Christ in Heaven. Or; think only of yourself, and your personal happiness to pursue greed and fame, and another person will fall from grace with God. Norm has shown us the way to live. May it be so, for all of us, to remember with kind, the life and times of this man. Norm was indeed one of the good guys. Amen. - Posted by: Doug and Loraine Purdey (Friends of Alanna and Derrick and their large whole family) on: Jul 21, 2014
