My sincerest sympathies to you Wendy. Your mom was such a grand lady with a great since of humor and charm. It was a real pleasure meeting her, caring for her and getting to know you, Wendy. All the best! - Posted by: Peggy Zacharias (one of Bertha's nurses) on: Aug 22, 2014

Bertha was our next door neighbor for several years (on Ferndale) and we remember her fondly. Bertha's kindness and her consideration were truly remarkable. I loved her stories about her home, the building of the (former) United Church on St Mary's and well, she really like our dog who was certainly bigger than she was. One day, prior to our fence being completed, Bart was out of the yard and Bertha calmly caught him and led him back to our yard. She always had a dog biscuit at the ready and Bart grew to wait for her at the fence everyday...from having dinner with Queen Elizabeth to sharing her home made grape jelly, she was a gracious woman and I am glad she reached 100...kindest regards to her family, Shauna - Posted by: Shauna Curtin and Ron Balmforth (neighbor) on: Jul 29, 2014

Our family lived on Birchdale and we were lifelong Norwood residents and neighbors, and I went to school with Wendy. I remember your house in Norwood so well, it was the corner one on Ferndale and we always walked by it going to church or to Nelson Mac. I remember seeing your folks out working in the yard and your mom always greeted us with a cheery hello and a huge wave, she knew all the kids in the neighborhood and always acknowledged us. I remember your mom always wore great hats to church, especially at Easter, it was quite the fashion show! When I was home recently for the Nelson Mac 100th year Reunion, I walked around the old neighborhood and did a lot of reminiscing about all the fun times we all had growing up and recalled fun adventures we all participated in, especially attending CGIT with Wendy and Patsy Spence. Fun, fun times! Your mom was a lovely lady with so much style, a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh. Our family sends you our deepest sympathies.
