GIUSEPPE MANICOTTO It is with profound sadness and broken hearts we announce our beloved father, husband and grandfather passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the age of 79. He was predeceased by his parents Concetta and Michele Manicotto of Lipari, Italy and brothers-in-law Onofrio Mandarano and Giovanni Taranto. Giuseppe will be sadly missed by his wife Marina of 59 years, their children Connie (Barry), Maria (Garry), Nancy (Nick), Michael (Anna), Betty (Dave), Wanda (Joe) and his grandchildren, Christopher (Shaylene), Daniel, Joseph, Melissa (Kent), Jessica, Marina, Michael, Stefanie, Natalie, Amanda, Julia, Michaela and great-grandchild Emma. Giuseppe is survived by sister Nunziata Mandarano, brother Francesco Manicotto (Enza), sisters-in-law Antonietta (Giuseppe), Giuseppina, Rita (Franco), Graziella (Bartolo), brother-in-law Bartolo (Elena) as well many nieces, nephews and cousins. Giuseppe was born in Lipari, a small island off the coast of Sicily on May 19, 1935. In 1955 he married his beloved Marina and together they created a loving home and raised five beautiful children. In August 1966, in search of greater prosperity, they made the decision to leave their homeland and immigrate to Canada where they were blessed with another daughter. Giuseppe devoted his life to caring and providing for his family. His happiest moments were spent with his children and grandchildren, and most recently with his youngest granddaughter Michaela, who was the light of his life. He had a passion for gardening and loved making wine with his son and sons-in-law. In his later years he made numerous trips back to his beloved Lipari, where he spent time with family and friends, fishing and simply enjoying life. The family would like to personally thank Dr. M.B. MacMillan and staff, Seven Oaks Medical Centre, Dr. F. Cordova and Dr. M. Moon, St. Boniface Hospital. Appreciations go out to all nurses, technicians and staff for their professional and compassionate care. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to home care who was there for Giuseppe and our family. The family will receive condolences between 9:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.; Eulogy will be delivered at 9:45 a.m. followed by the Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Church 510 River Ave. with Fr. Sam Argenziano. Entombment will follow in the Assumption Cemetery; 3990 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Giuseppe's beloved grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Giuseppe can be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Heart Failure and Transplant Clinic, St. Boniface Hospital. Riposa in pace Papa. • Giuseppe, or Joe, as he was often referred to was as we would say in Italian, "da un pezzo", that is solid and reliable. Like so many of his generation who came to this country in search of a better life he was honest, hardworking and selfless. He cared deeply for his family and did whatever he could to ensure their well being. His commitment to his land of adoption, that is Canada, was unwavering but he never forgot his Italian heritage which he promoted and perpetuated with pride and dignity. My wife Anna and I offer our condolences to Joe's family and kin. He will be missed. - Posted by: Stan Carbone (Friend) on: Jul 24, 2014
