ADRIANUS GOOS Dad loved soccer and cycling; Lawrence Welk and Dean Martin; planting his garden and tending to his apple trees. Above all he loved his family, especially his beloved wife of 51 years, Marguerite. He would show his affection in his own special way, like picking the first bloom off their rose bush for her every year. He was a brave man who showed his character by enlisting in the Royal Netherlands Army and going to war when he was just 19. Leaving behind one life in Holland to start a new one in Canada, he built a cottage and a house -- our home -- with his own two hands. It's where they raised three kids, Cyndy, Ken and Aileen and warmly welcomed a son-in-law, André and three grandchildren,Alex, Aiden and baby Madison. He was Dad and Papa; a man of faith and a proud veteran; a co-pilot, a confidant and a handyman who was always ready to roll up his sleeves and open his toolbox to fix something for the kids. He had a huge heart that after 85 years of giving all it had, finally gave all it had on Monday, July 21, 2014. Dad, we love you more than we ever told you and will miss you more than words can express. Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass celebrating Dad's life will be held on Tuesday, July 29 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway. In lieu of flowers, his family respectfully requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. • I (MaryAnne) first met George when he first came to Canada with my Uncle Fred van Gompel. I remember him to be a very hard working man with a wonderful sense of humor and a huge heart. We always enjoyed his visits to the Overwater Farm, especially when he brought along company from Holland. Our sincere condolences to you Marguerite and Family. - Posted by: Joe and Maryanne (van Aert-Overwater) Schers (Friends ) on: Aug 19, 2014

  • Met George back in the 1950s and worked at Manitouwadge mine together for a number of years. Worked hard but had great times together, We fished and hunted and had visits from the bears at the bunkhouse. We had great times playing hide and seek in the mine and pushing Big Joe,s car out and back in the snowbank. George, thanks for being there for me and have a good trip.
