BETTY ETTA JAMES (GAJDA) September 25, 1952 - August 1, 2014 After a four year battle with colon cancer, it is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend on Friday, August 1, 2014, at the age of 61 years. Betty was predeceased by her parents Alastair (1972) and Mary Day (2005). She is survived by her loving husband, Gerry Gajda, daughter Kimberley Corneillie, granddaughter McKenna - the light of her life, son Kevin Corneillie (Toronto), brother James Day (Shirley) of Vancouver, her beloved aunt Pearl Young and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Betty liked to go for Sunday drives with Gerry and breakfast during the week with C.N.R. retirees. Betty and Gerry travelled to the United States, Alaska and the West Coast enjoying the sites of new places. Above all she loved to spend time with her family and friends celebrating life. She loved spending as much time as possible with her granddaughter McKenna, taking her to preschool and playing baby dolls with her. During her treatments, she would encourage other patients and give her hand to hold when needed. Her heart was always about how she could help someone else, she never put herself first. "We will love you forever mom, your spirit lives on in each of us. You have shown us courage, unconditional love, support and kindness all of our lives and we will continue to share these attributes with others just as you did every day." The family would like to thank Dr. Denis Caners and Dr. Patricia Harris for all of their support and dedication to their mother's care during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank the nurses and the Oncology Unit in Concordia Hospital for their patience, care and support. "Mom spoke highly of all of you and appreciated the time you spent with her." According to Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's name to a charity of your choice. "Mothers hold their child's hands for a moment and their heart for a lifetime..."   • I worked with Betty at CN's Customer Support Centre in Winnipeg. She was always cheerful and a delight to be around. Always helpful and willing to lend a hand. Such a positive attitude. I remember on her retirement how she looked forward to riding all over and travelling. I am glad to see she accomplished some of those dreams.
