STANLEY JAMES BOBOWSKI III 1953 - 2014 With my heart broken and much sooner than I could ever have imagined, I had to let go of Stan's hands. They were strong. The hands of my best friend, my protector, my love. It has been 42 years since those hands became a part of my life - a husband's hands. Looking back I can see how hard his hands worked. As our children, Carrie and Jake (Hiro) were born, he gently cradled them to his chest and his hands became those of a father. From their first steps to adulthood, Stan's hands supported them and became the hands of a teacher, cheerleader, chauffeur and caretaker. Also important to Stan, his hands were a loving brother's hands to devoted sisters Joyce and Gail (Dan). As a union carpenter, his hands proudly laboured on many landmark buildings - the Centennial Concert Hall, Millennium Library, Hydro Tower and MTS Centre. The hands of a provider. As he worked on our homes and yards, his hands were the hands of a drywaller, painter, mason and gardener. From his early drawings to his beach glass and driftwood creations, he had an artist's hands. His hands built many beautiful pieces. Our family will always have keepsakes and the memory of his wonderful hands and the care they gave. They are the hands that have worked and given throughout his life. They're the hands I loved to hold - the hands of love. Till we meet on the beaches of heaven and we clasp hands again..... As per Stan's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Stan and I wish to thank neurosurgeon Dr. C. Kazina, the staff of CancerCare Winnipeg and CancerCare Gimli for giving us an extra year together. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • I grew up with Stan in the north end living just a few doors down on Inkster Blvd. We were about six at the time and were always outside playing, summer and winter. In winter, we’d build some amazing snow forts and skate at the rink down the lane.My most memorable times were in summer building go carts with Stan and we’d take turns pushing each other around the block. We were always modifying or repairing them. Sometimes we’d get to stay out late and we’d attach flashlights to the front. A few years later Stan and his family invited me along to their cottage at Sherwood Lake, Ontario. We had such a great time there swimming and going to Boulder Lake fishing. It was at Sherwood Lake that I first learned to water ski with Stan at the controls. Another memorable time was when we were sixteen and I borrowed my mom’s car and we drove out to Banff for a couple of weeks of camping. It was a great time till we ran short of money and didn’t have enough to get home. We knocked on a few doors looking to cut grass for a few bucks but no luck. Then we tried a motel to see if there was any work. We explained our situation to the owner and he gave us a job, take out and clean all the windows. And there were many. It kept us busy for hours but we made twenty bucks each and that was enough for a steak dinner before we left and gas to get home. I have many memories of growing up with Stan and will never forget the many great times we had. - Posted by: Richard (Dicky) Masek (Friend) on: Aug 25, 2014

  • We will always remember Stan as a friendly and cheerful neighbour who always had time for a few words. He was known to do helpful jobs for others without being asked but never took any credit. We are saddened that his life was so very short and that he did not have a few more years to enjoy the retirement he worked so hard for. - Posted by: Marelyn & Jim Ballany (Neighbours) on: Aug 17, 2014

  • Stan was an integral part of my apprenticeship in carpentry, and taught me some valuable lessons in life as well. Honesty, Integrity, Skill, and Pride. I have much to be thankful to Stan for. He is my brother, although he will always be my mentor. It was a pleasure, and an honor, to be his apprentice, and then work by his side as a journeyman. Stan's teachings will be with me for the rest of my life. My thoughts are with his family. Stan will always be remembered by us. - Posted by: David Schoor (brother (local 343)) on: Aug 12, 2014

  • Stan was a dear friend and mentor to me. His strong hands helped me build my fence and the many buildings. We worked side by side over many years. I will miss his wit and humor, and, above all, his knowledge. He truly was "a master carpenter". He is now resting in the loving hands of God. - Posted by: Sandro Basso (Friend/ union brotherhood) on: Aug 11, 2014
