Date of Passing: Aug 05, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER CHERNECKI 1921 - 2014 It is with heavy hearts the family announces the peaceful passing of our dear father and grandfather Peter, August 5, 2014, at the Luther Care Home in Winnipeg, MB. Peter is survived by his daughters-in-law Stella (Norman), Marilyn (Wayne), five grandchildren Christopher (Alana), Grant (Heidi), Kerrie, Trevor (Kathy) and Tracy. Peter is also survived by his 12 great-grandchildren. Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife Emily, his two sons Norman and Wayne, granddaughter Jamie, his mother, father and all of his siblings. Peter was born and raised in Sarto, MB. Peter moved to Winnipeg after he married the love of his life Emily at the age of 20. Together they lived on Flora Avenue in the North End of Winnipeg, with Dad working many jobs to support his family. After Norman and Wayne were born, Dad and Mom bought their home on Church Avenue, where they lived for over 50 years until spending his final years at the Luther Care Home. Dad was a very successful salesman. He began his sales career with Eastern Sales Ltd. winning many sales contests along the way and was ultimately promoted to the role of Sales Manager. His career in sales continued, but took on a different direction as he went on to sell hotels successfully until he retired. Dad's family was always the most important thing to him. He loved Emily, his boys and his grandchildren immensely. Mom and Dad had a long love affair that lasted all his life. Even after the passing of his beloved Emily, Dad still spoke of her everyday. Mom and Dad went on vacation for 17 consecutive years to Hawaii, staying at the Pacific Beach Hotel every year, loving every minute of it. He spoke fondly of his memories of those days often to all of his family. Other than Hawaii, dad's favourite pastime was having family BBQs in his backyard. A testament to Dad is the love and support from his grandchildren and family over the last five very difficult years. Dad was a great character, having a larger than life personality. He was lots of fun and very musical. He played many instruments and loved to sing and dance. Dad found great comfort in his singing near the end of his life. He will be greatly missed by many people. The family would like to thank the staff at the Luther Home for their loving support over the years where dad resided. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Luther Home or a charity of choice would be appreciated. Peter and I hit it off his first days at Luther Home telling me he was from Sarto I figured my mom must know him as she was from Sarto as well. That's when we connected we talked about the days of the dance hall live bands singing and dancing all night long. The same people we knew he loved to share his stories of Emily how proud he was of his boys and his grand children. And of course his travels and Carries. He worked hard on the exercise equipment in my office ridding the arm bike and stationary bike as well singing the whole time. He always made me smile every day at work and when ever I hear the song Yellow Bird I will always think of Peter. - Posted by: Josie Davis (Staff from Luther Home) on: Aug 09, 2014
