DR. THOMAS JOHN DEVLIN March 27, 1935 August 9, 2014 After a lengthy illness it is with profound sadness the family of Tom Devlin announces his passing at 79 years of age at the Victoria Hospital. Left to remember him are his loving wife Yvette Getty, children Scott (Wendy), Jennifer (Steve), Michael, Leigh (Wayne) and stepson Don Getty along with 11 grandchildren. Sisters Anna, Jean and Brenda and is predeceased by his mother Ruth Lyness, father Thomas Parker Devlin and by his daughter in law Marina. Dad grew up in River Heights and in the early 1960's moved to Nebraska where he received his PhD in Animal Science majoring in Nutrition and Bio- Chemistry. After graduation in 1965 he moved back to Winnipeg and began working at the University of Manitoba as a professor and taught in Animal Science for the next 30+ years until he retired in 1995. Over the years many of his students became successful in their own rite and "TJ" made many lifelong friends with those he worked with and met while at the University. His passion was research and teaching. In the mid 60s he was also very involved at Fort Richmond Community Centre both as a hockey coach and convener. After retirement Dad and Yvette enjoyed winters in Parksville B.C., Mexico and Mesa Az. returning each summer to his home in Winnipeg. Dad was an avid reader and often had many books and magazines "lined up" to read, once he finished doing his daily crosswords. He will be remembered for quick wit and reciting of many poems he had learned over the years. As per his wishes no service will take place. The family would like to thank the medical staff at both St. Boniface and Victoria Hospitals over the last year. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the St. Boniface Hospital in Tom's memory. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

I was fortunate to have Dr. Devlin as my professor for my undergraduate classes in Animal Science. He was also my advisor for my Master of Science program. He was a great guy, great instructor and I was lucky to have him as a friend. Sincerest condolences to wife and family. - Posted by: Roman Hrytsak (Animal Science student and Grad student with Dr. Devlin during the latter 60's. ) on: Jan 14, 2015

Mary and I so enjoyed knowing old Dev-il during our University years and beyond. Like Ray, I remember the great times, fishing and the Montcalm especially, as well as his natural, down to earth ways as a prof. Seems too soon for this but we will remember him fondly. - Posted by: Terry and Mary Cowan (former grad student during the sixties ) on: Sep 11, 2014

TJ was a mentor and friend to me and others both in under graduate and post graduate studies. He had a great wit which endeared him to many including me. I extend my condolences to TJ's family and hope that he will always be remembered as a true friend to overseas students who were always reminded to see the bigger picture. Condolences to the family: I had the good fortune of working at the Department of Animal Science all those years with Tom. I will remember the many fishing trips that we enjoyed and the stays at the family cottage. Also the fly-in fishing trip with TJ, nose on the inside of the window while the nose of the bear was on the outside of the window looking in!! Good memories.
