ANTONIETTA DI SANTO
Date of Passing: Aug 20, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTONIETTA DI SANTO In the presence of her loving family, Antonietta Di Santo passed away peacefully on the evening of the 20th of August, 2014. She will be remembered lovingly by all who knew her. She is predeceased by her parents Nicola and Anita. Antonietta is survived by her husband Antonio, her daughter Angelina (Kumar S. Sharma) and her son Domenico in Winnipeg, and also by her three brothers: Francesco, Justino and Giovanni in Italy. Mom was born in the small village of Sambuceto located near the town of Bomba in Abruzzo, Italy, and was the third youngest of the family. Her husband moved to Winnipeg in November, 1963 and Antonietta and her young family followed two years later, arriving in Winnipeg on October 23, 1965. Antonietta and Antonio enjoyed travelling. While her health allowed, they spent many winters in Mazatlan, Mexico, with their friends. The family made many trips back to Sambuceto and visited family and friends. Tony and Toni, and their family, are well known and respected in their hometown to this day. After the children were older, Antonietta worked in the kitchen of the Eaton's Grill Room Restaurant for 15 years and greatly enjoyed her job there. Mom loved to cook. Those who were lucky enough to sample her food enjoyed it very much. She was skilled at knitting and crocheting. She has passed those skills on to her daughter. Her motherly wisdom, integrity and gentle humour shaped the life in our family. She will be remembered and greatly missed by all of us. Condolences and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. and will be presided over by Fr. Samuel Argenziano at the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. Interment will follow at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street with a reception afterwards at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Mom struggled with a series of serious health problems for the past decade. We are deeply grateful for the excellent care Mom received from Dr. Ken Van Ameyde (HSC Internal Medicine). His efforts allowed us to enjoy the grace of her company for a few more years. Thanks are due to all the home-care workers that assisted us during Mom's protracted illness. We are indebted to staff of the Grace Hospice for providing excellent palliative care and support during Mom's last days. The family requests that donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Grace Hospice (through the Grace Hospital Foundation) be considered in lieu of flowers or other gifts. My deepest condolences go out to the family. I have many great childhood memories at the Di Santo household. I always saw Mrs. D as a happy, kind caring person. She was always telling us to be careful when we were out and about as teenagers. I remember her cooking skills and eating many Italian dishes that she made. You will be missed. - Posted by: Dale Arnett (Friend) on: Aug 26, 2014

Mrs. DiSanto will always be remembered by me as a kind, sweet and loving woman. Mrs. D was our across the lane neighbour and friend. Our saviour on days we forgot or lost our keys and then being invited in and fed her incredible Italian traditional dishes. (Maybe sometimes we lost our keys on purpose). A key was eventually made for the DiSanto's to give to us forgetful children. She as well as the rest of the DiSantos became a part of our family. Shared in weddings, birth of our children as well as many other special occasions. You will be missed Mrs. D, and were an important part of my childhood memories. - Posted by: Gail Kolt (van den Berg) (Family friend) on: Aug 24, 2014
