GERTRUDE DUECK (nee Giesbrecht) January 31, 1930 - August 18, 2014 On August 18, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer, Mom left her loving family to join those who have gone before her. Mom is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Heinrich (Henry); children Henry (Beth), Kenn (Cindy), Ed ( Karen), Judy (Darrell), and Katherina; grandchildren Jordan, Amy (Tony), Justin (Kristin), Bill (Erin) , Michael (Maria), Skyler (Jordyn), Summer (Josh), and Zack; step-grandchildren Tanis (Troy ), Jodi (Mike), and Bailey (Leonard); great-grandchildren Nikalas, Pelham, Hudson, and Dominic; step-great-grandchildren Lexi, Maddie, Jorja, Leandra and Jill; siblings Helen, Frank, Nora, Neil (Doreen), Edna and Ben (Susan); as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents, Cornelius and Eva, her brother Henry and her sisters Margaret and Eva; brothers-in-law Pete, Ed, John, Henry, Henry and Abe; sisters-in-law Lena and Ruth. Mom and Dad have always been about their family. Having both come from families of 10 children, they and we never knew the meaning of an empty house while growing up. Our childhoods were filled with family; grandparents, aunts and uncles and many cousins. Our own home was the house on the block that was always filled with kids us, our friends, neighborhood kids being watched by Mom and many foster children. Mom stood by her family with unwavering conviction, love and acceptance; even when our choices weren't the best ones. She welcomed new members to our family as if they were her own and we could always count on her when we needed her. Together with Dad, she taught us through example about the real meaning of family; to be there, to be supportive, and to love unconditionally. We feel blessed to have had her in our lives as long as we have, and we will miss her. A Celebration of Life will take place at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street on Wednesday, August 27th, 2014 at 1:00 pm with a viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Wheeler Cemetery 884 Symington Rd. All are welcome to attend. The family extends their gratitude to the staff and volunteers on the Family Medicine ward at St-Boniface General Hospital for their care and compassion during Mom's stay. Mom said many times that she wanted her flowers while she was alive so she could enjoy them, and so in lieu of flowers donations to help others may be made in Mom's memory to the Mennonite Central Committee, St-Boniface Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. • Though it's been many years since I last saw Mrs. Dueck, I have memories of being at the house and her laughing and smiling alot. She was a very kind woman. My deepest condolences go out to the entire family. - Posted by: Valerie Kipling (Parisian) (family friend) on: Sep 29, 2014

  • I remember Mrs. Dueck (Gertie) very well. We worked together at the Continental Hotel for a little while. I spent a lot of time with Kathy over the years, lots of memories. We were very close to the whole family. My condolences to all of you from the Boulet clan. - Posted by: Dan Boulet (old family friend) on: Sep 09, 2014
