LILLIAN ELIZABETH SPALDING October 7, 1923 - August 22, 2014 Lil peacefully went home to be with the Lord, at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, at the age of 90. Predeceased by Donald, her loving husband of 50 years. Mom will be dearly missed by her children Maxine Kessler, Gordon Spalding (Esther) and Heather Logan (Robert), as well as grandchildren Blaikie, Matthew, Megan, Stephen, Kevin, Nicole, Daniel; great-grandson Deklan, sisters Margaret Mikolaychuck and Joan Niemi (Melvin); precious nieces, nephews and good friends. Lil was born to Swedish immigrant parents and was raised on a homestead farm near Old Pinawa. She contributed to the Second World War effort by blending explosives at the Cordite Plant near Dugald. After the war, she met and married Don and built a home in Charleswood where they raised their three children. As empty nesters, she and Dad then built their 20 acre dream property on Cooks Creek. After two decades, when Dad's health declined, they purchased their condo in Oak Bank where she delivered the Free Press until the age of 88. When her health began to decline in 2013, she moved back to Winnipeg for extra care. She was a loving mom with a servant's heart, always ready to lend a hand and provide. We thank God for her Christian faith and take great comfort in knowing she is now in Heaven with our Lord and Saviour. In accordance with Mom's wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Building Fund at Oasis Community Church, 221 Cathcart Street, Winnipeg, MB R3R 0S1.
