Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOE (JOSEPH) KOWALSKI It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joe Kowalski on August 22, 2014 at the age of 86. Joe will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his brothers Mike, Stan (Marie), Walter (Trudie), his sister Sophie, niece Donna Hykawy as well as several other nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Joe was predeceased by his wife Teeny, his parents John and Mary, his sister Teena, brothers-in-law Ed Herman and Bill Hykawy, sisters-in-law Pauline Kowalski and Elsie Hykawy, nephew Ronnie Hykawy and niece Krys Hykawy. Joe was born in Wojkow, Poland on April 3, 1928 and together with his parents and siblings immigrated to Canada, making Winnipeg their home. Joe worked as a machinist for Canadian National Railway for over 40 years, and also for many years he held a part-time job at the Winnipeg Stadium. Joe was an active parishioner at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church where he spent over 25 years participating in numerous activities, specifically making perogies, and his special coffee. Joe always looked forward to gathering with his fellow members of the Friendly Settlers Club. He enjoyed watching sports as well as old movies, golfing and carpentry. For many years he enjoyed travelling with his wife, family and friends to many destinations. Luck was always on his side during his casino trips. Joe will always be remembered by his heart of gold and warm, friendly smile by everyone he touched. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 100 Yale Ave. E. with funeral services on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Fr. Djura Maljik and Rev. Fr. Michael Krochak officiating. Following services, an interment will take place at Transcona Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his wife.
