BARRY NICHOLAS NAPORA On Monday, August 25, 2014, Barry passed away at Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care, where he had been cared for by the most gentle, compassionate team of caregivers. Barry is survived by his sister, Jean (Woloshyn) and her family, nieces Charlene Fossen (Jim) and Rae-Lynn Rempel, nephew Matthew Woloshyn of Montreal, and their families: Jared, Christopher, and Nicola Fossen, and Keenan and Geri Rempel, as well as two very special people who were like family to him, Kim Turner (Ryan) and their children Ethan and Evan, and Sherry Tuner (Graham). He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Tillie Napora (Lodon), his brother-in-law, Ray, his stepmother, Annie (Pochinko), stepbrothers, Jim, Lawrie, and Richard (Pochinko), and stepsisters, Chris (Sawchuk) and Marlene (Bukoski). Barry was born at St. Boniface Hospital on April 11, 1947 to parents who lived in Transcona. Our mother died when Barry was 13 months old and life changed for Barry and our family. Our father remarried and moved to Rosedale, MB. Barry's life took twists and turns too numerous to mention but he always took care of himself. His nickname was "Bear" and he could be as gruff as a grizzly or as gentle as a teddy bear, as the mood struck. He was soft-hearted and helped those in need, even in those times when he didn't have much himself. Barry also had a wonderful circle of friends from the his teen years to the present, and they stood by him over his journey to fight his cancer. He enjoyed and appreciated all their visits. You know who you are and we all thank you. No matter how bad the day was, when someone asked he would say "Not Bad". Barry was a stationary engineer by trade. He loved dogs and was the official dog sitter when anyone wanted to go away. Thank you to everyone who helped during this journey of Barry's, especially my son-in-law, Jim, who, since November 2013 was the principle driver to CancerCare with Barry two or three times a week. Cremation has taken place, at Barry's request there will be no formal service. No floral tributes please. Instead, take a friend for coffee, as Barry so enjoyed, or phone a friend and just say "Hi! How are things going today?" Many thanks to Dr. R. Wong and staff at CancerCare at St. Boniface and God's special angels on 3E Palliative Care at Riverview as well as Dr. J. Wong, Dr. Victoria, and Dr. St. Goddard. We all loved you Barry. You will always be in our hearts. You are my HERO. Until we meet again. • Dear Uncle Barry. Though you left us far too early, I can't help but remember all the good times we have had throughout my life. Your caring demeanor was always on display, and your sense of humour was infectious, turning any type of situation into one that left you with a smile and a laugh. Though you may have felt bothersome when you would ask me for favours, or to take you grocery shopping, but I hope you realize how much fun I had, and how much I looked forward to that time I got to spend with you. Those visits were always a special time, as I got to spend it joking around with the one we call, "The Bear". Growing up with a Grandfather is something many children get to cherish, and although both of mine had passed away long before my childhood, I have always felt you have filled that void, and displayed those grandfather tendencies that you probably didn't even know you were carrying out. Getting over your passing will be one of the hardest things I encounter, but it will be simple to ease that pain when I think of all the good times we had together. I can still see you shaking your fist at me with that look on your face of pure disgust, followed by a coy smile that brightened up the room. Thank you for your love, and your memories. Your legacy will live on in my heart and in my home, and I can't wait to tell my future children about the one we call "The Bear". Love you always.
