Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN LEWIS (nee GRAY) January 29, 1931 August 11, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, Joan Lewis, on August 11, 2014, at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, at the age of 83. Joan is lovingly remembered by her husband Colin, daughter Marcia Blyth (Mitch), son Brian (Audrae), grandchildren Faye Mason (Brian), Christian and Darrell Lewis and brother Barry Gray. She was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Mamie Gray. Joan was born in Souris and raised in Brandon. After graduating from Brandon Collegiate Institute, she trained as a lab technician at the Manitoba Provincial Laboratory School in Brandon and achieved her certification in 1951. During her career she worked at the Brandon General Hospital, Lynn Lake General Hospital, Winnipeg General Hospital (now Health Sciences Centre) and finally at a private medical clinic until her retirement. Joan and Colin were casually acquainted in Brandon in the early 1950s and a chance meeting in Clear Lake (Wasagaming) in the summer of 1956 rekindled the friendship, the rest is history. They were married in Brandon in 1957 and lived in Lynn Lake, MB until their move to Winnipeg in 1960, where they raised their children. She and Colin were involved in square and round dancing for over 40 years and did much travelling from coast to coast in both Canada and the United States. She loved gardening, especially her roses, she also loved to sew, making her own wedding dress and her daughter's, many dance clothes as well as quilting and knitting for her children, the Church and the Christmas Cheer Board and was involved in many church activities with the UCW. The family would like to thank and acknowledge all the nurses and staff at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg for the exceptional care and compassion given to Joan. In keeping with Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
