ODEN (ODIE) SWANSON It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather Oden Swanson on September 1, 2014 at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 84. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Debbie (Clancy) and Sharon (Perry), and his grandchildren Katie, Samantha, Thomas, Kelsey and Kristan. He was predeceased by his wife Bert, sister Merle, brothers Vernon (Bud) and Stan, mother Hazel and father Albert. Dad was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan and lived in Regina for many years until moving to Winnipeg where he resided for the past 39 years. Odie, as he was fondly known, worked for Brooke Bond Foods (later Lipton Foods) for many years. As a sales representative, he travelled countless miles and eventually moved to Winnipeg with Bert and Debbie where he became the Western Regional Sales Manager until he retired. After retirement he found great happiness in babying his car, golfing with his buddy Ted and "puttering around the yard" as he would put it. His grandchildren were also his pride and joy. Many fond memories will be cherished including his love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Boston Bruins with countless games being analyzed in the family room. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Doctors St. Godard, Wong and Abdu as well as Susan and all the incredible staff on 3E at Riverview Health Centre including Kevin, Sabrina, Tony, Jennifer and countless other nurses and health care aides. A special thanks to Shahid for his countless home visits, and his empathy and genuine concern for Dad. You all made Dad's last few months the best they could be with your patience and compassionate, we will never forget your kindness. If so desired, donations in Odie's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • Debbie, so sorry to hear of your parents passing, I especially remember fondly how kind your father was to me back in Regina as a youngster. - Posted by: Rick Wilson (Friend) on: Sep 25, 2015

  • Just wanted to say hi and my condolences. Uncle Oden was my favourite uncle and such a sweet man. Ken and I will be married 44 years this year, I still have the mauve wool blanket we got from Oden and Bertha as a wedding gift, although I have used up all the Brooke Bond Spices! So many stories I could tell you about when I first moved to Regina for Grey Nuns Nursing School! You guys were just tiny! Keep good, happy, funny memories girls! I will. • Sharon and Debbie: I'm so saddened to hear of Uncle Oden's passing. He was such a fun guy. I have many happy memories of him at the house in Regina, barbequing, Roughriders games and all the 'talk' afterward. He was great at lifting your spirits and cheering you on. I will miss him.
