GILBERT (PUDGE) THOMAS CHIEF Thunderbird Wind Man November 1, 1949 - September 4, 2014 Peacefully, on September 4, surrounded by family, Gilbert (Pudge) passed away at the Beausejour Hospital. He is predeceased by his father, Thomas Chief, mother and father-in-law, Agnes and Stanley Straight and niece Jessica Straight. Pudge is survived by his wife, Mary; children Veronica (Alvin), Dwayne (Tania), Lonny (Trish), Rhonda (Jake), Vanessa; his mother Myrtle; sisters Edith, Debbie (Treasure), brother Vernon (Kathy); grandchildren Gilbert Jr, Tiffany, Aaron, Kayla, Tyler, Katie, Cheyenne, Jeannie, Melissa, Liam, Logan, Mindy, Trevor, Brandi, Danielle, Leslie, Alexis, Avery; great-grandchildren, Amy, Antonio, Jaden, Netayshia, Devin, Darrel Jr., Landen, Mason, Gilbert Jr. Jr., Harmony, Honey, Kali, Shaylee; in-laws, Reggie, Judy, Linda, Margie, Barb (Clifford) Joyce, Doyle (Charlene), Langford (Judy), Ronnie, Walter and family. Pudge also had special friends Kenny Prychen, Pat Prychen, Johnny Folster, Clarence Kent, Kenny Tobias, Roddy, Tim, Daniel and Tick. Pudge was a hard working man. At a young age he started working in construction with his father. He worked on the Red Diamond boat, Selkirk Booth Fishery, Freshwater Fish, Selkirk Rolling Mills and for a number of years was a delivery driver for Wawataik Building Supply. He lost his eyesight in 2000 but still went on to do many things like golfing, fishing, curling and raising chickens. He had other business ventures like tire repair, commercial fishing and provided sanitation serves for Brokenhead Ojibway Nation for a number of years. Pudge was a talented man with an entrepreneurial spirit. Well loved by his family, Pudge was a loving husband, father and grandfather "Papa" who enjoyed his family. He was known for his sense of humour, his many stories and all the antics he got into. Pudge loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas. He was an avid curler with the blind curlers of Manitoba travelling with them throughout Canada and competing. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Tom Chief Memorial Hall in Scanterbury, Manitoba. Pudge requested there be no wake but there will be a viewing on September 9 at 10:00 a.m. before the service. Reverend Vincent Solomon of Saint Phillips Anglican Church in Scanterbury is presiding. Pallbearers are Kenny Prychen, Patrick Prychen, John Folster, Kenny Tobias, Dwayne and Lonny Chief. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nursing staff at the Selkirk and Beausejour Hospitals for their care and kindness. We love you and you will forever be in our hearts.
