PHYLLIS LOUISE KUHN June 1, 1934 September 3, 2014 Unexpectedly, with family at her side, Phyllis Louise Kuhn passed away on September 3, 2014 at the Selkirk General Hospital. She was predeceased by her father Harry Kuhn; mother Ara Good and brother Allen Kuhn; brother-in-law Jim Bidinosti. Left to remember Phyllis, her sister Iris Bidinosti (Frank); brother John (Joyce) and sister-in-law Dorothy Kuhn. Also numerous nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces. Born at home near Gunton, MB Phyllis arrived. She went to school at Erinside School from grades 1 to 9. Phyllis moved to Winnipeg to attend Tec Voc High School, living with her grandmother during this time. Phyllis started at GWL Insurance Company, in the typing pool and retired 37 years later as one of the first titled women at GWL (management). Phyllis enjoyed many years at her hobby farm near Teulon, MB. Many memorable family gatherings were enjoyed here and many huge harvests from her garden were savored. Phyllis enjoyed her card-playing and even participated in the senior`s games playing cribbage in Flin Flon, MB in 1990. After retirement, Phyllis would venture out to Vancouver Island to house sit for the winters. Many friends were made and Phyllis enjoyed bonding with her nephew Jeff who lived in Comox. Phyllis would hang with Jeff while his parents ran away, many wild card games for Jeff and Auntie Phyllis! During her later years, Phyllis decided to forgo her trips west and tough out the MB winters. Lots of card games with friends during the winter. Phyllis enjoyed container gardening and her flowers come spring. Farmer`s markets were also a favorite. Great-nephews Ryan and Nicolas and great-niece Kirsten spent many hours with Auntie Phyllis, helping with summer/winter chores and spending time enjoying each other's company. Phyllis loved nature and all the wonderful wonders it held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ducks Unlimited or the Wildlife Federation. As per Phyllis' wishes no funeral will be held. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Some of my fondest childhood memories were heading up to Phyllis' farm with my Gramma. I adored going there -in fact, I think I used to tell my friends it was MY family farm. In a sense I wasn't fibbing -Phyllis always felt like family to me. Growing up, she wouldn't miss sending a birthday card and to this day I still claim that Phyllis' Christmas gift of sponsoring some prairie dogs in our names at the Winnipeg Zoo as the most unique Christmas gift EVER! Phyllis taught me to get my hands dirty. The days digging potatoes, sneaking raspberries, and my most favourite pass time -riding the mower, are forever engrained. I think I had my first "Biffy" experience at the farm. I definitely had my first beer at the farm (Moosehead)! And I forever (somewhat strangely) associate the taste of rhubarb to being with her. And during all this time, I was witness to such a special friendship between her and my Gramma - a friendship spanning over sixty years. So many fond memories, stories told, lessons learned. Phyllis will be missed. - Posted by: Nancy Harrison (Granddaughter to Irene Moir) on: Sep 13, 2014

  • I just wanted to say what a wonderful woman Phyllis' was. She and my mom (Irene) had so many good times together. I went and saw her about six weeks ago and she gave me some swamp milkweed to plant for my mom who had passed. She said the butterflies would be a wonderful tribute to mom. Now I have them for both of them. We will miss her. So sorry for your loss - Posted by: Sandy (Friend of family) on: Sep 08, 2014

  • Really enjoyed Phyllis' visits in Fall and Spring as she passed through Salmon Arm on her way to and from the Vancouver Island. A lively, interesting woman who always told me how much fun it was to be retired. Love to John, Joyce, Jeff and Iris from all the family. • Phyllis got me my job at GWL. Spend many wonderful weekends at her farm with my children and mom. We spent days in the garden with those potatoes, riding the lawn mower having the fires at night. She loved to show what she had "done"and it was always hanging on the clothes line. Many years earlier all the fun times we had at Twin Beaches. Many great memories. She was a great friend. My thoughts are with her family. - Posted by: Kim Harrison (Friend daughter of Irene) on: Sep 06, 2014

  • Phyllis & my Aunt Phyllis Adam were Vancouver Island friends and shared many stories, memories and laughs from growing up in Manitoba. The "two Phyllises" had many adventures on Vancouver Island and enjoyed playing cards together. Phyllis K. was a great help and source of joy for Phyllis Adam in her later years. My sympathies to Phyllis's family. I know Phyllis will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Linda Brown (Neice of Phyllis Adam who was a close friend) on: Sep 06, 2014
