Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES ROBERT DAWSON On Tuesday, September 9, 2014, Jim slipped away from us leaving a profound sadness in his wake. Jim leaves to mourn, his loving wife Alice, children Diana and Christopher and grandson Kyden; his brother-in-law Steve and wife Carol, nephews Shane, Shawn and Aaron Brown. He also leaves to mourn his passing, his three Finnish cousins in Canada, Hillka, Taimi and Terry. Jim was predeceased by his parents George and Babe, and brother Peter. Jim was born May 2, 1933 in Pine Falls, Manitoba where he spent a great deal of his young and adult life, enjoying growing up in a small town along side the Winnipeg River. Leaving home as young men do to try out other places and endeavours, he returned in 1966 to stay and work as a power engineer in the mill' steam plant until his retirement in 1992. Fishing on the Winnipeg River was Jim's great passion spending countless hours out there catching mostly pickerel, with two rods at a time, shooting the breeze with other fishermen coming and going. Friends had many a feast of Jim's catches as he gave away as much as he kept. Back and forth from the house to the dock you always knew where he was. He was our rock' and the rock road is a little bit less dusty because of him. If he had a complaint you heard about it. He liked to shake things up but always for the good. Jim began carving duck decoys prompted by a purchase of an old decoy Alice bought at a garage sale. What better way to bide those night shifts than bringing a hobby to work and home to finish. He carved mallard, teal, wood ducks and got to be very good at it. Several made their way to far flung places, as he sold some, but if you didn't want to buy one, he gave you one. In 1997, Jim and Alice bought a log home in the Grand Beach area and spent the next 15 years, lovingly finishing the house and landscaping the property until 2012 when they moved to Winnipeg. In accordance to Jim's wishes there will be no formal service and cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jim's life will he held on Tuesday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m. at 340 Bertrand Street. Jimmy was one of my best childhood friends, I was born in l933, left for Texas in l943, returned for visit in l950 and found we were still good friends.
