MAXINE DIXON Peacefully on September 8, 2014 our much loved Maxine, aged 90 years of Winnipeg, MB, passed away into arms of God. Maxine is survived by loving husband Frank Dixon; brothers Fred Switzer (Iris) and Lawrence Switzer (Bette) of Regina and by her sister Maline Solomon (Joe) of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Rose Switzer and by her brother Ivan Switzer. She will greatly missed by many adoring nieces and nephews. Maxine was born in 1924 at Duff, Saskatchewan. She grew up happily on her family farm and attended a one room school. Maxine did very well in school and went on to have successful careers in banking and office clerical work. In 1955 Maxine married the love of her life Frank Dixon. After their marriage they moved to Elkhorn, Manitoba and started to farm. Maxine built a beautiful home in Elkhorn creating beautiful flower gardens that became her trademark. In Elkhorn, Maxine was active in her community church and was a proud member of the Royal Purple. Maxine also enjoyed her quilting bees and a great game of bridge. She was was a curling dynamo, leading many teams to bonspeil wins. Maxine continued to curl well into her 80's. After retiring from farm life Maxine and Frank moved to Winnipeg. During retirement they went everywhere from the Middle East to the Philippines. She and Frank also loved their special nights of dancing, together they made a beautiful pair. Maxine was an amazing hostess. We all got to share her incredible meals and indulge in the best pie that existed. Her tables were always set with the finest linens, china, silverware and the perfectly arranged flowers. An elegant woman all of her life, Maxine had a flare for fashion always impeccably dressed complete with high heels well into her 80's. Maxine was a charming lady. She could always see the good in people and always had a kind word for everyone. She was compassionate and generous. She cared deeply for her family and was a role model for them. Maxine's struggles are over now. She is at peace in heaven. Heaven is pretty lucky to have an angel as precious as our dear Ma. A service to celebrate Maxine's life will held at Bethesda Church, 1350 Grant Ave. Winnipeg, MB, at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.
