Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTINE RODIN (neé Chloe Taylor) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Christine Rodin, on September 8, 2014 at the Grace Hospital. Christine was born in Vancouver, B.C., on September 24, 1934, the only child of Louise Macdonald and Samuel Taylor. The family moved to Winnipeg when she was 10. Christine was a student at Lord Roberts and Gordon Bell High School. In her youth she was a tall, striking woman with a beautiful head of copper coloured hair. The family nicknamed her Cocoa. Redditt, Ontario, was among her greatest loves; she spoke of the family cabin there, the local residents and the spectacular landscape her entire life. Christine trained as a stenographer. She married Edward Rodin in 1961 and the couple moved to St. James to raise a family. Motherhood was utterly daunting for our intelligent and creative mother who suffered from severe depression; agoraphobia and perfectionism. Christine was predeceased in 1998 by her daughter Cassie, who was living in Vancouver. We are grateful for our sister's generous spirit, which is still very much alive in us. Edward Rodin passed away in 2002. Christine very much missed her late husband who was a devoted partner throughout their 41 years of marriage. Christine will be remembered as an astute and highly perceptive individual. She carried an oversized purse and was never without lipstick. She wrote marvelous letters and her deadly observations and fierce repartee could send her opponents (husband, children) reeling. Her keen wit was intact at the time of her passing. Her favourite things included; old movies, eating in restaurants, a well made drink, swimming in the ocean, opera and Rick Mercer. Christine leaves behind two children daughter Toby (Steven Theobald) and son David of Toronto, as well as her cat George. A heartfelt thank you to the 5 North care team at the Grace Hospital. The funeral will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Glen M. Knutson officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Manitoba Division.
