NICHOLAS BEMBENEK It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas John Bembenek after a courageous battle with cancer on September 10, 2014 at 86 years of age. Nick is survived by his daughter Christine and son-in-law Gary Rimmington, his grandsons Evan and Brendan, his sister-in-law Bernice Lysak, sisters Anne and Jean Bembenek, brother Anthony (Betty) Bambenek and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marion, his parents Peter and Helen; his mother and father-in-law Nicholas and Michalena Lysak; his brothers, John, Frank, August, Martin, Joe, Paul; sisters, Mary, Rose, Amy, Carol and Bernice. He was also predeceased by his and sister-in-law Bernice's dog Brandy. He will also be very missed by his grand-dog Iris and the cats. Nick was born December 5, 1927 in Baldur, MB, where he spent many years on the farm working hard but enjoying life as a child. The family moved to Winnipeg, which is where he met the love of his life Marion. He loved the outdoors and built a cottage at Spruce Sands on Lake Winnipeg. There were many wonderful memories there. He was employed at Bristol Aerospace for many years as a tool and dye worker. He loved golf, travel especially to Hawaii and weekend trips to the States. He was a man of faith and very involved in his church, he was a member of Knights of Columbus and enjoyed that very much. After his wife Marion passed he later made the decision to move to Amber Meadow Retirement Community. He lived there for nine years. He made many friends there and enjoyed his 'Golden Years' in style. He will surely be missed on their weekly excursions to the casino and other wonderful excursions they went on. As a father, Nicholas was the best father a daughter could ask for. He was loving, gentle, and patient and would do anything for his girl 'Chrissy'. "Dad, you will never know how much you have meant to us and how much you will be missed, we love you very much." The family would like to thank the following for their kindness and care during this difficult time, all the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital floor 5 units 3 and 2, Dr. Clayton Dyck and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba who cared for him for a short time. Prayers will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Monday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Burrin Ave. on Tuesday, September 16 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. "You will be sadly missed but forever live in our hearts." CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Uncle Nick, I was reading On Facebook today and I saw a clipping and it read, I WISH HEAVEN HAD VISITING HOURS. I am going to miss your smile and your wit. Even though we did not spend much time talking as we both got older, I did like listening to the stories that you told me. Please say hi to all of your brothers and sisters, especially my mom and dad(Helen and Paul), tell them that I miss them all and some day when it's my turn I will see them once again. - Posted by: Timothy Martin Bembenek (Nephew to Nick Bembenek) on: Sep 15, 2014
