GUY JOSEPH POIRIER January 20, 1959 - September 8, 2014 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Guy Joseph Poirier on Monday, September 8, 2014. Guy is survived by his wife Cindy; stepson Corey; sister Marianne (Irwin) Penner; nephews, Cameron and Chad; brother-in-law Jim Mancinelli; niece Nicole; nephew Lucas; in-laws, Elio and Antonietta Mancinelli; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many lifelong friends. Guy was predeceased by his parents, Joyce and Edmond Poirier. He was born in Winnipeg, MB on January 20, 1959 where he resided all his life. He attended school at Sir Sam Steele and Elmwood High, later receiving his welding red seal from Red River College. Guy worked for CP Rail for 23 years, both at Logan Shop and on the gangs. Later, with the work boom in Alberta, he decided to make a change and set out to Fort McMurray working for KMC Mining until just prior to his death. Guy had a few loves; one of which was classic cars, having owned a '69 Vette for a number of years. Another was sports, he played hockey early in his life as a goalie, coaching as he got older and when he took off the skates, he grabbed his bat and glove and played baseball on a team of buddies called the Inmates. He enjoyed getting away to West Hawk Lake and traveling to Mexico. One of his favourite things was meeting his friends for coffee at the office. (Robin's Donuts) Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Guy's Life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Until we meet at the office again "You know what I like about you "??..... • Hard to believe it's been ten years since you've left this earth...When I think of you I remember the good times. Your corny jokes and that crazy smile! The twinkle in your eye that always got to me in ways you probably never knew. Until we meet again... - Posted by: Gail Beaudin (Friend from back in the day) on: Sep 08, 2024

  • My sincere condolences to the family. Just found out about this and was absolutely floored. We had first met in 1976 when I was just a teenager. We had lost touch over the years but I had thought of him often, his smile, the way he was always having fun, that little twinkle in his eye that always touched me like nothing else. I was lucky enough to meet up with him again in 2006 and we had a chance to catch up. He was a good man and will never be forgotten. Godspeed Guy, you will always have a very special place in my heart. - Posted by: Gail Beaudin (friend from back in the day) on: Nov 09, 2017

  • Guy was my first friend living as a backyard neighbor - the football games in the park, ball hockey in the back lane and sleep overs as young kids is what I remember in the early years. Learning water skiing and playing around the dam at St. Malo was a lot of fun in those years. I could go on with hanging out at Elmwood Community Club playing whatever sport that the season allowed was what we did best. Recently just meeting up with Guy and talking on the phone about the things we used to do brought back a lot of fun things we did together. It was just recently we were planning on having a little get together with some of the old friends from the Elmwood years. I have many great memories about all the years we spent together as neighbours. Conrad Starkell - Posted by: Conrad and Kim Starkell (Freind ) on: Sep 15, 2014
