CLARENCE (BUCK) HAROLD TRUTHWAITE August 7, 1930 - September 11, 2014 Peacefully, with family by his side at the age of 84, Buck Truthwaite, formerly of Lockport, MB, passed away. Dad leaves to mourn son Sandy (Michele) and their children Joel, Hailee, Whitney and Owyn; son Dee and his daughter Rebecca Santini (Claudio) and their son Marcus; son Jim (Janis) and their son Matthew; daughter Karen Boyce (Dave) and their children Riley (Lygia), Murray, Jenny and Lynsey; son John and his daughter Ava; special family member Juliano Nieckarz de Assis. Dad is survived by his brother Ian (Pat) and sister Catherine (Ray) both of Hamilton, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife Janet in 2013; mother Euphemia in 1996, father John in 1991 and brother Murray in 1953. Dad worked at the St. Andrews Lock & Dam for 36 years until 1989. After retirement, he would often joke he needed to go back to work for a rest, we all kept him quite busy. Dad was the epitome of DIY. If it was broken, fix it. Dad was happiest when he was busy, mostly helping other people, not so much for himself. His needs were never important. Dad's Kingdom was home in Lockport. When the question of travelling was brought up, dad would respond "Why would I? I like it right here!" Later in his retirement, he could often be seen walking to the road where he would sit on the fence and just admire the surroundings. It wouldn't take long before one or more people would stop and talk to him. His wealth of knowledge of the area and quick wit was magnetic to most. He was never short with a comeback. Dad, your influence is immeasurable. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the St. Clements Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute to Buck's memory may contribute to the Alzheimer Society. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at the Tudor Personal Care Home that brought happiness and comfort to Buck during the latter part of his illness. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
