He leaves to mourn his wife and soul mate of 28 years, Anna, his stepdaughter Debbie (David), his grandsons Cole and Seth, his brother Bob (Carol), his sister Betty, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by parents Pearl and Maxim, brothers Raymond and Peter, and sisters Gail, Mickey and Marilyn. Rick spent the majority of his adult life working for the City of Winnipeg before retiring early due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis. Rick had a kind soul and always enjoyed having lively conversations with loved ones and just being silly with his grandsons. The family would like to thank John and the rest of the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their kindness and compassion. In keeping with Rick's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. A private interment will take place at St. Vital Cemetery. The family respectfully declines flowers. Truly, may your soul rest in peace, Uncle Ricky. I have fond and good memories of younger days when we would walk for hours, and you would play "Horsie" with me and imitate the voice of Horsie to my great delight. I still have tapes of us, and you as often as ever were the life and fun of the many noisy parties. In later years, you sought for the deepest of life's answers in the Holy Bible, and we conversed for many, fruitful, interesting and cathartic hours. You rose above and transcended lesser ones who would find fault (as did the central character of Dickens in A Christmas Carol), always increasing in compassion toward all, and yet these same ones themselves did far, far worse things by anyone's estimation. The very Word Of God to which you increasingly turned to find worship and meaning shows that there will come a resurrection wherein one can find and accept God's gift of eternal life, wherein all the deep matters of the soul will be answered by God himself, and where loved ones will be reunited and death itself will be conquered. R.I.P., Uncle Ricky. You sought for and found the better. Charles Pond, your nephew in Ottawa - Posted by: Charles Pond (nephew) on: Feb 24, 2016
