JAMES PARKER SUTHERLAND
Born: Oct 22, 1963
Date of Passing: Sep 17, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES PARKER SUTHERLAND October 22, 1963 - September 17, 2014 It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much loved Parker Sutherland, at the age of 50. Left to cherish his memory is Brenda, his loving wife of 26 years, his daughter Madison Lee (Matt) and his son Brandon Owen Henry. Parker was the beloved son of Helen and Wayne Sutherland and a fun loving brother to Kelly (Larry), and their children Tara, Landon and Breanne; Scott (Judy) daughters Megan and Kate; Paul (Shelley) and their children Jimmy, Jodie and Alexis; and Reed and his son Mackenzie. Parker was also a special son-in-law to Larry and Anne (Telke) Leveque and a fantastic brother-in-law to Irene (Curt) Williamson and their son Jared; Dan (Leesa) Telke and their children Ryan and Raegan. He was predeceased by his father-in-law Henry Telke, and will be missed by his wonderful friends and neighbours. Parker began working at a very young age at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club. After graduating from high school in Selkirk in 1981, he continued his education at the Fairview College in Alberta where he received his diploma in Turfgrass Management. He then spent two years as Superintendent of the Carmen Golf Course, before he returned as the Superintendent of the Selkirk Golf and Country Club in 1987. During this time he was elected as the President of the Golf Course Superintendents Association in the mid-1990s. After his tenure as Superintendent at SGCC he changed careers and became a Consultant at J&R Livestock. Parker was currently employed as the General Sales Manager at Guertin Equipment. Parker was very active in his community and always willing to lend a helping hand. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Selkirk Fire Department, held a position on church council of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, and was chair of security for the Selkirk Safe Grad for many years. Parker loved being close to water and especially enjoyed his vacations with his family to Hawaii and Florida. He also loved fishing and hunting with his dad, son Brandon and friends. Parker's passion was boating and he was the happiest at the helm of his pontoon boat. Many weekends were spent with family and friends navigating the waters to his little piece of "Paradise", the mouth of the river. He also loved to be the tour guide of the Netley Creek area. Many lasting memories were made at "Paradise" with his family and friends. We will always look for the eagle in the big cottonwood tree. He loved to have family gatherings - the more the better. These were opportunities to express his generosity, kind spirit and zeal for a good party, that built strong, lasting relationships with family and friends. Parker was extremely proud of his family and the accomplishments of his children. He was an exceptional husband, father, son, brother and friend. He will be eternally loved and missed by everyone. At Parker's request, the honorary pallbearers will be the "Happy Gang" - The Collins, The Cooks, The Foulises, The Medocks, and The Sutherlands. A celebration of Parker's life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 6088 Hwy 9A Selkirk, MB with Pastor Terry Throndson and Rev. Deborah Vitt officiating. In lieu of flowers and keeping with Parker's generous spirit, donations may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at Box 448, Selkirk, MB, R1A 2B3, the Selkirk and District Community Foundation, 200 Eaton Ave., Selkirk, MB R1A 0W6, or a charity of your choice. Dearest Brenda, Florence and I still cherish the memories of our vists to Selkirk, and those few get-togethers with Pat and Tom and Parker and you. We are helpless in consoling your grief, all we can do is share it with you, which we do with very heavy hearts. May the Love and peace of our Heavenly Father, be your strength and console you and the children for He never abandons us. Dear Lord, watch over Brenda, Brandon and Madi, let them be consoled by your presence and your Love for them. Brenda, your brother and Sister in Christ, Raymond and Florence and family - Posted by: Raymond and Florence Poulin (Patricia's parents.) on: Sep 21, 2014
