HELEN TOMIUK (nee GUSHULAK) September 10, 1936 September 16, 2014 Peacefully with her family by her side on September 16, 2014, Helen passed away at Concordia Hospital at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by her husband Daniel Tomiuk on June 28, 1979, brothers Alexander and Bill (Simone) Gushulak. Helen was born in Springfield, Manitoba on September 10, 1936. Her family moved to Transcona when she was a young child. She married Daniel Tomiuk On October 26, 1957. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Sharon, Susan and Donna, brother Leonard (Stephie) of California, granddaughter Crystal and Eric Millis, grandsons Erin (Amy) Cook, Geordan and Kevin Sigurdson, and great- grandchildren Evin, Madison and Olivia along with many nieces and nephews, brother and sisters-in- law. Ex son in-law Kardi Sigurdson was adored by Helen. He became a close friend and her "go to guy" compassionately helping mom out whenever needed. Helen loved Kardi like her own son. We appreciate his compassion and for helping Mom in times of need, especially these past few years with her declining health. Our dear mother was an extremely unique, gifted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who truly had a heart of gold. She was like a mother to everyone who knew her. Helen was extremely loving, helpful, kind, supportive and nurturing and had an open door policy for everyone. She helped people in any way that she could. Helen was often compared to a "Mother Theresa" type of person. Helen helped people selflessly and made sacrifices for her husband, children, grandchildren, friends and anyone in need. Helen will be greatly missed and never forgotten by her children, grandchildren, relatives, friends, neighbours and former coworkers. She was a very loving and devoted daughter to her ill mother and cared for her in her final years. Helen brightened everybody's day. "Mrs. Happy" was her nickname. The family would like to thank the emergency staff at Concordia Hospital for the Care and compassion they demonstrated to mom and the family as well. It was very much appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1006 Nairn Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. with Pastor Tim Fletcher officiating. Reception to follow after the service. A private family interment will take place at later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish donations can be made in Helen's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. • Susan and Donna, your mom was truly one of a kind. I recall the days I lived in Winnipeg and stopped by your house. Helen was always so warm and friendly and she became like a second mom to me. She really was Mrs Happy and it was always joyful and comforting to talk to her. May you be comforted by the thoughts and memories of happier days and the joyful times you spent together. She will be missed by us all but will never be far away as she will live on forever in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Pamela Bryski (Friend) on: Sep 24, 2014

  • I was so saddened to hear of your Mom's passing. She was like a second Mom to me during my teenage years. The number of days we'd all sit in the living room listening to music or hanging out in the kitchen just talking. I think one of the most memorable times was the trip the three of us made to Morden, MB to see Don Williams in concert. Not only were we fortunate enough to see the show, but we were able to chat with him in the hallway of the local motel. Your Mom was an amazing lady and will be missed by many. My heartfelt condolences to you all. With lots of love Donna - Posted by: Donna Lagasse (Bauch) (Friend) on: Sep 24, 2014
