LINN CRAWFORD (CRAWF) DAWSON February 7, 1927 September 23, 2014 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Crawford on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Known to friends as Crawf, he will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 61 years Dorothy; two sons Kevin and Garnet; daughter Lynn; son-in-law Gerry and three grandchildren Hannah, Anders and Blake Nyberg. Crawf is also survived by his sister Norma Fenske; sister-in-law Shirley Friend; sister and brother-in-law Beverley and Bill Green and many nieces and nephews. Crawf was the eldest of four children (Garnet, Ian and Norma) born to Edna and Linn Dawson. Raised in an air force family, Crawf served four years in the RCAF after graduation from high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. In 1950, Crawf went on to run the family business Universal Furnishings/Dawson Interiors. In 1975, he formed the company L. Crawford Dawson Agency representing office furniture lines until his retirement in 1988. Crawf really enjoyed people and helping those less fortunate and was involved in many organizations. He was a member of the Lions Club of Winnipeg since 1953; past Commodore and Life Member of the Winnipeg Canoe Club; Director of the Red River Exhibition and a past member of the Winnipeg Executives Association. Crawf was also a member of the Beaver/Ionic Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, which he was recognized this year for 50 and 60 years of service. He was an active member of the Khartum Shriner Drum and Bugle band since 1966, and is now an Honorary Life Member. Crawf also enjoyed his many years of membership with the Royal Order of Jesters. He was also a member of St. Vital United Church, now St. Mary Road Church. In his retirement, Crawf enjoyed taking bridge, wood carving and computer lessons, wine making and baking his famous Christmas fruit cakes for family and friends. Crawf also loved curling at both the Granite and Winnipeg Winter Club and golfing at the lake in the summer. Crawf was also diligent about working out three times a week at the Winnipeg Reh-Fit Centre for 30 years. Family was the most important part of Crawf's life. He married the love of his life in 1953 and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Crawf was always most happy to be with his family and cherished the times that everyone was together, especially when gathered for celebrations or family time at the cottage at Ponemah. Crawf had a very wonderful sense of humour, but at the same time, in his quiet and patient way was able to instill his values of kindness, hard work, good manners and respect for others. Family and friends will miss this True Gentleman who lived life by the Golden Rule. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. If friends so desire, donations in Crawford's memory can be made to either: Khartum Shriner Patient Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg MB, R3P 1B9; or the Winnipeg Reh-Fit Centre, 1390 Taylor Avenue, Winnipeg MB, R3M 3V8. The family would sincerely like to thank Dr. Bruce McLeod and Dr. John Rabson for their many years of care and compassion, as well as the Saint Boniface Hospital Heart Institute and the Deer Lodge Centre.
