RICHARD GUY GRAHAM November 5, 1922 - September 16, 2014 We are so sad to announce the peaceful passing of Richard Guy Graham at 9:45 p.m., on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Morris Hospital with his family by his side, at the age of 91 years. Dad is survived by his son Richard J. Graham (Arlene); daughter Elaine Heinl (Paul); grandchildren Richard A. Graham (Lucette), Steven Graham (Brandi), Lloyd Smith, Ian Heinl (Ashley), Erin Bayani (Rodney); great-grandchildren Keegan, Hailey, Kyle, Shannon, Jasmin, Jillian, Raven, Madison, Evan, Oliver, Alexis and Lucas, and great-great-grandchild, Wesley. After 66 years of marriage he was predeceased by his loving wife Sue on August 28, 2011; parents Richard and Florence Graham; brothers He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Florence Graham; brothers Pete and Tom; sisters Frances, Edith, Joan, Dorothy and Grace; great-granddaughter, Lilly Bayani, and granddaughter Arlene Smith. At 17 years of age, Dad signed up with the 1st Royal Canadian Regiment, was deployed to North Africa, Sicily, and then wounded in Italy in 1943. While convalescing in England, he met our mother, Josephine Graham whom he promptly named "Susie". They married in England and Dad brought his beautiful English war bride home to London, Ontario. He joined the London City Police in late 1945 and retired in 1978 when he and mom moved to Beausejour, Manitoba to be close to their children. Dad then worked for Russell Funeral Home for many years. He went on many fishing and hunting trips with his son and son-in-law. Camping was a favourite pastime for Mom and Dad. Many wonderful times were had with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He lovingly cared for our mother for several years until her passing in August, 2011. He subsequently moved to Parkside Villa in Morris, Manitoba, where he took many road trips with family to the U.S.A., London, Ontario and rural Manitoba. Dad was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since the end of the war and proudly wore his Legion attire for Legion dinners and Remembrance Day services. While a Policeman, he became a Shriner as well. Last December, Dad broke his hip and subsequently became a resident of the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris. We are honoured and proud to have had such a wonderful father. We could not imagine a better example of a father. On Saturday, October 4, 2014, a Celebration of Dad's life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #111, 161 Charles Street West, Morris, MB, at 3:30 p.m. We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Schmidt, Dr. Fraser, homecare workers, nurses at the Morris Hospital, staff at the Red River Valley Lodge and the Morris Ambulance Service. Your special kindness will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, donations may be made in Dad's memory to the Red River Valley Lodge, 136 Ottawa Street West, Morris, MB or the Palliative Care Unit at the Morris Hospital, 215 Railroad Ave. East, Morris, MB. Our condolences go out to all of the Graham families in this time of sorrow. When I was a new recruit in Selkirk, I was warmly welcomed into the Graham family dinners and other occasions. Mr. Graham always had a smile to greet me and I have many fond memories of great times spent with them. He was a wonderful role model and friend. I am proud to have known all three Richard Grahams. Rest in Peace Mr. Graham. Sincerly, Becky Herrington - Posted by: Rebecca Herrington (friend) on: Sep 30, 2014

I worked closely with Dick as a Sergeant on London Police. Both of us worked under Staff Sergeant Maurice Heath. Dick had a great personality, many experiences and positive work ethic. A very clever fellow that didn't need to remember names as he called everyone 'son'. He was very well liked and will be greatly missed. A great guy. - Posted by: Elgin Austen () on: Sep 29, 2014

To Dick , Arlene & Elaine, Paul and families. We were very sorry to hear about Dick Sr. passing. We all know what you are going through and extend our best wishes to you and your families. I remember the times your dad visited Dick in Norway House and this memory has brought back a lot of past memories of our time in Norway House. Your dad was a gentle giant with a great sense of humour, a real gentleman and a nice guy. He probably saved our bacon once or twice after some of the capers we pulled. Again our deepest condolences. God Bless. Rick & Nancy COLE. - Posted by: Rick & Nancy COLE (Friend of son) on: Sep 28, 2014

Dick has been a true and close friend since we joined the London Police Force in 1947. We met Ethel on a coffee break at a diner on motorcycle patrol. Dick said she would be a good one for me to marry - which I eventually did. I shall never forget Dick's last visit to London a couple of years ago. Our small group of former cops had lots of laughs. All who knew Dick Graham loved him and will always remember him. Our sincere condolences to his great family. - Posted by: Ethel & Doug Hogg (Friends) on: Sep 28, 2014

I knew Sgt Graham as one of my earlier patrol Supervisors. He was always polite and fair with not only his patrol officers but also with the citizens we serve regardless whether they were victims, witnesses or suspects. A real professional and excellent role model. May God Bless Dick and comfort his family. I worked with Dick on the London streets, but mainly in London Police Services Headquarters. Dick was one of the finest men I have ever met. He commanded instant respect. I sometimes got an invitation to enjoy a glass of beer with him and his massive German Shepherd dog at his home. Of course he was a veteran of WW11 and I am pleased that he lived a long time. - Posted by: william Ainsworth (Bill) (Former collegue.) on: Sep 24, 2014

When I became a police constable with the London Police in 1969, I like many others on 1 Pltn, were blessed and very fortunate to have Sgt. Dick Graham as our leader, and mentor! His common sense and work ethic and loyalty to his "men" and the citizens of London were beyond reproach! In closing, I thank the Graham Family for sharing your father with his extended family.
