LARAINE CHARLOTTE CALLIN (nee HANTON) March 3, 1945 September 5, 2014 "In the arms of the angel, fly away from here" With great sadness, the family of Laraine Callin of Winnipeg, announces her peaceful passing after her courageous ten year battle with cancer. Laraine is remembered always for her positive attitude toward life, her determination, and her absolute belief in angels and "the other side" which helped her through the difficult times, as well as the support she received from family and friends, co-workers and medical staff. Laraine is survived by children Shawn (Valdene) and Todd (Jacquie); grandchildren Shaye, Luke and Neve; sisters Joyce Miazdzyk (Bill Boyko) and Bette Marozzo (Eugene); brothers John and Jamie Hanton and many cousins, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by mother Leone, father Roy, husband Mervin, partner Kevin Yeryk and brother-in-law Tony Miazdzyk. Laraine was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the first of five children. Growing up was full of happy memories with family, spending time with cousins on her mother's family farm, camping and sharing a close relationship with her Grandma Hanton. Laraine's lifelong love of music began at young age with piano lessons, and singing and entertaining for both family and friends. Following high school, Laraine worked at the Bank of Commerce where she met her husband Mervin. After the birth of Shawn, the young family moved to Winnipeg where Todd was born. Soon after, Laraine joined the staff at the Transcona Medical Clinic where her warm and friendly demeanor greeted patients for over 30 years before her retirement in 2013. Later in life, Laraine met the love of her life, Kevin Yeryk who predeceased her in 1998. Fortunately, she also gained an extended family in the Yeryk's with whom she loved dearly and shared many great memories. The last 10 years of Laraine's life was full of happy times even though she was coping with cancer. She maintained and enhanced her close relationship with first grandson, Shaye, and welcomed two more beautiful grandchildren, Luke and Neve. She continued the yearly tradition of visiting Thunder Bay to spend time with family and friends. She also took her first "winter" vacations, traveling to Florida, Cuba and Mexico with family and friends, including a cruise to the Mexican Riviera with her Mom and sisters. Laraine was a passionate reader and would spend many hours curled up with her favourite books. After her retirement, Laraine was feeling well enough to volunteer her time at a Senior Home where she enjoyed spending time with the residents. Laraine will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends. She is now our Angel with the Angels. A celebration of Laraine's life will be held on October 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1006 Nairn Ave. Winnipeg, MB.
