ALBERT (POM POM) BRUNEAU It is with heavy hearts we announce Al's passing at the age of 76 years on October 10, 2014 after a long, courageous battle with colon/rectal cancer. Left to mourn Al are his wife Heather; children Rene, Florence, Yvonne, Stacy, Louise, Greg; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Al was born in St. Boniface on April 13, 1938 and grew up in the Lac Du Bonnet area before moving to Winnipeg. He worked hard at many jobs all of his life before becoming a Pembina Trails School Division courier from 1981 to 2012. After retiring, Al kept busy as a lunchroom supervisor at Acadia Junior High. When Al wasn't working, you'd find him visiting his friends, former coworkers, or those working at many Fort Richmond businesses. You couldn't go anywhere with Al without running into someone he knew. He also loved music and to meet new people, which led him to ballroom dancing and his wife Heather. Al also believed in keeping his family ties strong. He rarely missed the chance to spend time with his children and grandchildren. On Saturday, October 18, 2014 Al's funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Avenue near Main Street and the Red River. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Al's name may be made to Siloam Mission, Main Street Project, CancerCare Manitoba or the Riverview Health Centre Foundation. Our family would like to thank the warm and caring Palliative Homecare staff, particularly nurses Marianne N. and Joanne, as well as Riverview Health Centre staff, who allowed him to die with dignity. Al Bruneau was one of the most positive individuals I have ever met. I enjoyed our many conversations in the school hallways, office or parking lot. He always had time say hello...not just in passing...but to take a few minutes to chat how things are going, always with a smile. Al cared....truly a genuine human being. This man was everyone's friend. Even when faced with his illness, Al approached it as he approached all other things in his life....positively. I always had a great deal of respect for Al and was saddened by his passing. it was a privilege to have known him. My deepest condolences to his family on the loss of a wonderful man. God Bless. - Posted by: Ken Park (Fellow Fort Garry/ Pembina Trails School Division Colleague) on: Oct 23, 2014

I remember Al well from the mid to late 80's as he delivered the mail to St. Avila in Fort Garry School Division. He was always happy and cheerful and became a part of each school staff with his positive personality. 15 years later, I saw him at VW and was amazed to see him with his still positive, vibrant demeanor. My condolences to the Bruneau family for the loss of such a wonderful man. Cherish your memories. - Posted by: Yvonne Reimer (teacher friend) on: Oct 20, 2014

Pom Pom would come to visit me a few times a year at my office. Al walked in to our dance class at Shirley's with a big smile and enthusiasm as he embraced his desire to learn the swing dance. It wasn't long afterward that Al was sporting his leather pants at a fabulous 50's social event. In one dance class he met Heather and his eyes lit up. We all know what happened after that. - Posted by: Deborah and Chris Gaynor-Martens (Dance Instructors and friends) on: Oct 11, 2014
