VIRGINIA LYNN BRICE June 5, 1960 - September 23, 2014 Sadly, on September 23, 2014 Ginny passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ginny will be missed by her husband Jerry Kubik, sister Susan Morison, brother-in-law Alan Thoren, sisters Christie Houston (Ashley and Liam) and Kelly Houston (Emma and Ethan), all of her extended family, and a large, longtime circle of friends. She was predeceased by her loving father and mother John and Phyllis Brice, sister (Phyllis) Ann Thoren, and birth mother Diane Houston. Ginny was raised in St. Vital, attending Hastings and Glenlawn Schools. She loved sports and in the 1970s took great pride in playing goalie for the St. Vital Norberry Intermediate / Jr. Girl's Hockey Team. She also loved all her summers at the family cottage at Victoria Beach where she was always ready for fun and enjoyed whatever adventure each day might bring. After her schooling, Ginny worked at The Winnipeg Tribune and at St. Amant Centre before moving to Guelph, Ontario where she worked for many years as an Educational Assistant in the Wellington Catholic District Schools. She had a special gift for working with children and had an immense impact on those whose lives she touched. During this time she was an active member of her union serving as President for a period of time. Ginny had just returned home earlier this year. Ginny's family will treasure memories of her passion for life, her big heart, infectious laughter and her genuine love for all living creatures. "My beloved Ginny will always be remembered for her dedicated lifetime service for humanity...all plant, animal and man. Love, Jerry xoxo." "We, as Ginny's closest friends, will forever cherish her memory. Her legacy will live on, as we remember her generosity and commitment to helping people, whether it was the numerous students over the years, or for the less fortunate she encountered in her many life experiences. From your closest friends, We love you Ginny"." A Celebration of Ginny's life has taken place at Victoria Beach. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made in Ginny's memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3. • Ginny we were so fortunate you were able to come to Winnipeg and share with us in the wedding. Little did we know this was going to happen. We are just so glad you made it home to be with your loved ones. Go find those aliens we looked for as we were staring into the starry night skies at Victoria Beach. We love you, we miss you. Our heart goes out to Sue Morison and Jerry Kubik. R.I.P. beautiful person - Posted by: karen crotty (one of many close friends) on: Oct 15, 2014

  • I am so sorry that I did not get to visit with Ginny this fall! I was looking forward to seeing her after all these years. I have so many great memories of her!!! One of them was when, with her power, my Grade Sevens won the tug o' war event at the Hastings winter carnival (defeating even the Grade Nines!!!!!!) and thus were catapulted into first place overall, winning the trophy! A second was when some of my homeroom (Ginny, too) came to visit me one evening on Arden Avenue and sat happily on my LR carpet for awhile. We also had great times with the hockey!!! I am so happy to hear that Ginny enjoyed her jobs after school and that she got married. - Posted by: Nancy Gates (Teacher and Coach) on: Oct 14, 2014

  • To lose someone so young is not only sad, it is very tragic. My heart goes out to Ginny's family at this very sad time. - Posted by: Dianne Kennedy (friend of Sue's) on: Oct 11, 2014
