ARLENE SHIRLEY NICOL (SABESKI)
Date of Passing: Oct 11, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARLENE SHIRLEY NICOL (nee SABESKI) Surrounded by her loving family, Arlene passed away peacefully on October 11, 2014 at the age of 55. Arlene was born in Russell, Manitoba, but lived the majority of her life in Selkirk. She worked at variety of jobs in her life, the longest being at Canada Safeway for over 21 years. After her health forced her to retire, Arlene refocused her attention to doing the things she most wanted to do: reading, gardening, fishing, traveling, going to the beach and getting together with friends. Arlene was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #42, volunteering in a variety of capacities and serving on the executive. Arlene loved her family and enjoyed when everyone got together for birthdays, Thanksgiving and especially Christmas. Whether it was decorating the entire house, baking our many holiday favorites, meticulously wrapping gifts or finding just the right present for loved ones Arlene was happiest (and busiest) at Christmas. She leaves to mourn her passing her true love and husband Larry; her son Duane (Erin); siblings Lori (Lawrence), Scott (Kim), Bruce, Jason (Dawn); and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a wonderful collection of great friends. Arlene was predeceased by her beloved son Sean; mother and father, Anne and Bill; and her grandparents Tony and Carrie Javra. Thank you to the staff of the Selkirk & District General Hospital for their care for Arlene over the past two weeks. Thank you to Dr. Elbardisy for providing excellent primary care. And a special thank you to Dr. Bshouty, Lynn and the exceptional staff at the HSC Respiratory Clinic for their support and care for Arlene over the past seven years. Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 17 at 11:00 a.m at Gilbart Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sean Nicol Legacy Fund (seannicol.org/make-a-donation) or to a charity of your choice. Arlene, life without you will not be the same. We will miss your laugh, your humour and your zest for life. We love you. Until we meet again. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family. We had at lot of fun at Safeway working nights and listening to CDs from the 70's and 80's and setting up displays. It was also nice to see Arlene at the Concert Hall on August 20 sitting in the same row as us. - Posted by: Bonita (co-worker) on: Oct 17, 2014
