Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDREAS KARL KURTZ On October 13, 2014 Andreas (Andy) Karl Kurtz passed peacefully into his Saviour's arms at the age of 101. Andy was born on March 14, 1913, the second eldest of 10 children of Andreas and Caroline Kurtz. After moving from the farm in Lydiatt, Manitoba they resided in the North End. At the age of 16 he went to work at the CN Telegraph delivering messages on his bicycle in order to help support his younger siblings. He eventually moved into an office position where he worked until his early retirement in 1973. At a young age he met the love of his life, Elsa Otto. They were married on August 28, 1937 and had two daughters Lois and Valorie. Andy was very handy and could virtually build or repair anything he put his mind to. He renovated and updated his house on Redwood Avenue, where he resided for 64 years and single-handedly built a small cottage at Falcon Lake, which is enjoyed to this day by his family. He was a longtime faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and recently a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He was loved and admired by all who came to know him for his humility, sense of humour and love of life. Andy was predeceased by his parents; wife Elsa; daughter Valorie Buie (Bob), and his siblings Bill, Gordon, Charlie, Ernie and Evelyn. He is survived by his daughter Lois Webster and her husband Allan; grandchildren Lisa Bayko (Gary) and Kelly Leung (Brent); great-grandchildren Hannah and Emma Leung; sisters Christine Morris and Marie Simpson of Winnipeg, as well as brothers Paul and Wally of British Columbia. He enjoyed the visits his beloved dog Spencer made to Meadowood with his new owner Renee; the family would like to thank the staff at Meadowood Manor for the loving and compassionate care that he received residing there. A Christian funeral will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1541 St. Mary's Road, on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Christian burial to follow at Chapel Lawn. If desired donations may be made in Andy's memory to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. "Thanks be to God; He gives us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Cor. 15:57"

Growing up on the West Coast I did not get to see Andy very often. However I have a great memory of him going down the water slide during a Kurtz reunion in Winnipeg. Obviously he had a great zest for life. I again got to visit with him at his 100th birthday party last year in Winnipeg. During this visit I was fortunate to reconnect with other family members many of them whom I have not seen for many years. My dad, Paul (Edward), spoke of his brother Andy often and fondly and wished that he could have visited him again. Thank you for the great memories Andy. Well done at 101 years! - Posted by: Susan Rivard (Niece) on: Oct 22, 2014

I remember convincing Uncle Andy to take his first waterslide in Regina at a family reunion. He was probably in his mid 80s. The first attempt, with a dry bathing suit, he had to push himself down the slide. However the next try, he flew down and when he hit the pool, my cousin had to jump in with her clothes on to right him as he was disoriented. Scared me to death but he just laughed it off. He taught me age has so limits. Rest in peace Uncle Andy but stay away from the waterslides! - Posted by: Jeanie Campbell (Niece ( Paul's second daughter)) on: Oct 21, 2014

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which, the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. (2 Tim 4: 7-8) Uncle Andy was always a friendly and joyful person during his long life. Now he is safe in the arms of Jesus experiencing joy everlasting! What a wonder and a blessing! - Posted by: Trudy, Gene and Evan Ludwick and Robert Otto (niece and nephew ) on: Oct 17, 2014

It was 31 years ago when your youngest granddaughter brought me out to Falcon Lake to meet you and Grandma. I know you meant alot to Kelly and I wanted to make a good first impression but I was feeling quite nervous on the ride out. I remember that day like it was yesterday and I will never forget how welcome you made me feel. You always had a warm smile and kind words for everyone and had a way of making everyone feel special especially your great-granddaughters Hannah & Emma. Well 31 years creates alot of memories (and alot of Jeannie's cakes) but a few of the more memorable ones were the time I was driving you and Auntie Martie to Costco and the light turned yellow. It was a quick decision but I decided to hit the gas and speed through the intersection. I thought you were going to give me some grief over that but you turned to me and said "Atta boy, I would've been disappointed if you would've stopped!". The other memory emphasized your philosophy of not wasting anything. This occurred after we finished putting the water in at Falcon Lake at the beginning of the season. We had a sandwich and shared a Coke. The Coke was in a tin can (which was a little unusual as the use of aluminum cans had been around for a while). After we finished the Coke, and a fair amount of belching took place, I noticed the Coke had an Expo '86 logo on the side of the can............ This took place in May 1990!!!!! We never did get sick but sure laughed re-telling that story numerous times over the years. Life will not be the same without you but I am sure you are in heaven with Grandma and Val and you are are all looking down on us with a smile as we go on with our lives. I was lucky to have known you and blessed to call you family. Hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, TIGER!, hooray! - Posted by: Brent Leung (Grandson (in-law)) on: Oct 15, 2014
