CLINTON LEROY DARTNELL Clint died peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on September 27, 2014 at age 94. He was born in Winnipeg on January 10, 1920 to the late Edward and Valerie Dartnell. He was predeceased by his wife, Doreen (2004), sister Rita (2013) and brother Lorne (2009). He is survived by his sons Terry (Carol), Mike (Mary Kay); grandchildren, Michael, Lindsay, Erin, Jenean and great-granddaughter Kyla. Clint grew up during the Great Depression on Washington Avenue in East Kildonan. ln 1940 he enlisted with the RCNVR and was assigned to the HMCS Dauphin (Corvette) to convoy duty on the North Atlantic between St. John's, NF and Derry, lreland. He was discharged from the Royal Canadian Navy in 1945 as a Petty Officer. He had a long and varied retail sales career in furniture, carpets, tile and real estate beginning in the 1930s and ending in the late 1990s. During these six decades, he was employed by Eaton's (Winnipeg), Chappell Furniture, Garry Furniture (Fort William), Simpson Sears (Guelph), Canadian General Tower Ltd., Building Products, Llentrad Carpets (Winnipeg), Sheraton Carpets, Toole and Cote (Calgary, Victoria), and Erhardt-Streu Flooring (Selkirk). Harmonica playing, running marathons, reading the Bible and weight training occupied his leisure hours. Many summer vacations were spent at Oak Point on Lake Manitoba, Victoria Beach, Balsam Bay and Beaconia. The Dartnell family is deeply appreciative of the excellent care Clint received at Deer Lodge in Tower 7 and Lodge 7. Care which reflected not only the highest level of medical skills and knowledge, but also compassion and support for the person and family. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday October 24 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 4G2 or Elim Chapel, 546 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, R3C 0G3.
