Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMAN ALFRED POULTON March 9, 1924 - October 13, 2014 It is with great sadness that the family of Norm Poulton wish to announce his passing at the Portage District Hospital on Monday, October 13, 2014. Predeceased by his wife Georgina, his parents Alfred and Edith Poulton, sister Dorothy Mitchell, and his sister-in-law Bette McClure and brother-in-law Charlie McClure. Norm leaves behind to celebrate his life, his children Barbara and husband Merlin, Gordon and wife Darcey, Andrew and wife Mindy, grandchildren, Allison and husband Colin, Amy and husband Devon, Chelsea and friend Lucas, Tess, Dana and great-grandchildren, Hudson, Piper and Holden. Also his sisters-in-law Catherine and husband Lloyd, Eleanor, brother in-law Doug and numerous nieces and nephews. Norm was born in Winnipeg and attended Centennial School and West Kildonan Collegiate. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942 where he spent time in Halifax and Toronto in various roles. Most notably serving on mine sweepers on the triangle run from Halifax, New York and St. John's Newfoundland. Dad was proud to be a veteran and never missed a Remembrance Day Service. After his marriage to Georgie in 1947, they built their first home in West Kildonan, where they started their family. Norm was a long time member of the West Kildonan Legion maintaining his membership there when work took him to Brandon and then Dauphin. An avid outdoorsman he loved his time spent with friends and family curling, golfing, hunting and fishing. Some of his many highlights was his two hole in ones and the "Waterhen Special" fishing trips and Hunting Trips to "Tin Town" in the Delta Marsh. Norm worked for Manitoba Hydro for 36 years. In retirement he maintained his Hydro connection with the Hydro X group. During his time in Dauphin Norm was an active member of the Vermillion Lodge Masonic Order and the Dauphin Shrine Club. His performances at parades on the Shrine float playing the Calliope could be matched by no one. Norm built their second house on an acre of land south of Dauphin where he maintained an outstanding yard. Dad really loved his time in Dauphin and there was no question as to where he wanted to retire. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2:00 a.m. at the Dauphin United Church. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in memory of Norm can be made to the New Shiner's Hospitals for Children or a charity of their choice. Noble Norm was always one of the first ones to greet Lady Yvonne and I when we visited the Dauphin Shrine Club. We had a number of wonderful visits together. I know that the Club has lost a great member and a hard worker. Rest in Peace Brother! Doug Virtue PP 2004 Khartum Shriners - Posted by: Doug Vrtue (Fellow Shriner & Past Potentate) on: Nov 01, 2014
