Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER CHRISTOPHER SMITHSON June 17, 1923 Pipestone, Manitoba October 14, 2014 - Calgary, Alberta Walter Smithson, beloved husband of Elinor Smithson (nee Sutton) of Calgary, AB, passed away on October 14, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Walter served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 to 1946. Upon returning to civilian life, Walter was a member of the United Commercial Travelers Association for 66 years and was a charter member of the Optimist Club of Assiniboia. He was a professional real estate salesman in the Westwood area of Winnipeg for many years. Walter and Elinor spent many happy winters in Corpus Christi, TX. Besides his beloved wife of 65 years, Walter is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christyl and Stephen Ayliffe; his grandchildren, Ryan (Stephanie) Ayliffe and Robyn (Kieran) Ayliffe; great-grandchildren Alicia and Cade; two brothers Ross (Dorene) Smithson and Jack (Barbara) Smithson; sister-in-law Joyce Smithson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Pearl (Elswood) Hillman, Phyllis (Percy) Graham, Lionel (Sabra) Smithson and Gerald Smithson. A graveside service will be held in Carman, MB at a later date.
