ALICE MARY STEPHENSON (nee MCCONNELL) January 5, 1919 - October 17, 2014 Peacefully, surrounded by her children, Alice passed away on October 17, 2014 at the Golden Links Lodge located at River Ridge Retirement Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Alice was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, whose love knew no boundaries. Her bright blue eyes, contagious smile, humour, but most of all her unconditional love and understanding are her legacy. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Lyle and many beloved family members. Left to cherish Alice's memory are her daughter Joy (Doug) Blower, son Barry (Pat) and daughter Wendy Chester, nine grandchildren, and their partners, ten great- grandchildren, sister Bertha Stacey, brother Raymond (Evelyn) McConnell and numerous nieces and nephews. Our family would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the wonderful staff at Golden Links Lodge for the love, respect and care they have given our mother during the many years she was in their caring and capable hands. Celebration of Alice's life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alice's name to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. We did not know your mom Joy, but over the years have heard how wonderful she was. Our deepest sympathies. Love as always.......Gerry and Linda Demski - Posted by: Gerry and Linda Demski (Friends of Joy and Doug Blower) on: Oct 25, 2014

  • Alice always made me feel welcome when I visited her. Funny story: Alice and I went to Carman MB to pick strawberries & visit my mom and dad (her uncle and aunt). It was a very hot day .... so hot in fact that on the way home Alice had to find a way to cool off (there was no air conditioning in the vehicle I was driving). Next thing I knew Alice had leaned over towards me and whipped her right leg out the passenger window. I said "Alice, you can't do that." She replied: "I'm hot and I have to cool off." and of course she kept her leg hanging out the window (and then she laughed just like always). Our sincere sympathy to the family, Fran (and Ken) Welch - Posted by: Frances (Hamilton) Welch (Cousin) on: Oct 21, 2014
