ANNE EISNER Anne Eisner, with family at her side, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2014 at Grace Hospital at the age of 91 years. Mom is survived by her sister Susan and by her children Ken (Jeannine), Marv (Marg), Ed (Libby) and Dianne (Gerry); grandchildren Shelley (Peter), Kendra, Michael (Christie), Stephen (Tara), Kristen (Jamie), Kim (Jeff), Jennifer (Jeff), Travis (Melanie) and Taylor (Katrina), and 16 great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Ben of 69 years, her parents Herman and Helena Harms, her brothers Bernard and Herman, and her sisters Agnes, Mary, Tina and Helen. Mom was born near Warman, Saskatchewan in 1923. Growing up on a farm during the Depression, life was a struggle. Mom lost her father to a construction accident in 1943, and things became even more difficult. But working hard and pulling together as a family were nothing new, and they all rose to overcome the challenges. That same year, Mom went to work at the Swan Valley Hospital. She met Dad at a church picnic, and they married in November. Mom and Dad worked hard to raise and support us. While Dad spent a lot of time working away from home on the DEW line and other projects, Mom was at home alone with four small children, no car and no phone. When Dad got a job with National Defence in 1957, the family moved to Winnipeg. During the first years in Winnipeg, Mom babysat neighbourhood children. Later she worked at Salisbury House, and then at Robinson Little & Co. where she was very proud of the work she did. Mom retired in 1979, and she and Dad enjoyed many happy years of retirement. They loved to travel, going once to Europe and frequently to Hawaii, as well as to Ottawa often to visit Marv and his family. They lived in Kelowna for several years, and travelled around the lower mainland and interior of BC. But Mom and Dad missed the family a lot, and in 1993 they moved back to Winnipeg. Mom was a great cook; her cabbage rolls, barbecued ribs and Christmas cake were particular family favourites. She was also an accomplished seamstress, sewing many of our clothes when we were kids. Mom was a strong woman who strived to overcome every challenge. In 2001 Dad had a serious heart attack; without her constant loving care he would never have survived the next dozen years. Mom's health began to decline, and her last few years were increasingly difficult. The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa, where she lived for the past two and a half years; and Dr. Macek and nurses Rachel, Erin and Robin at Grace 5N for their wonderful care and compassion in her final days. Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Anne's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 12 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg MB. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Sincere condolences to the family. Ben and Anne used to live across the hall from me on Setter Street. You could not have met a more friendly couple and it was a pleasure to have known both of them. - Posted by: Pam Ruby (Former neighbour) on: Nov 09, 2014

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your Mom Dianne. As I said, even though I never knew her, she must have been a great mother to have raised a daughter like you. - Posted by: Brent Millar (Daughter's (Dianne) friend and colleague ) on: Oct 21, 2014
