VERY REVEREND WACLAW CWIEKA May 4, 1941 October 17, 2014 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Very Reverend Father Waclaw Cwieka. Very Reverend Father Waclaw Cwieka was born in Krasnik, Poland on May 4, 1941. He is survived by his sister Aurelia Kapuscinska and her children, Ewa, Waldemar and Iwona in Krasnik, Poland. Father was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Alexandra (Dec), and his brother Myron. Father was educated in Krasnik and Warsaw, Poland. In 1959, he was accepted by the Bishop to the Polish National Catholic Church to attend the Seminary. He completed Theological studies in the Christian Theology Academy with a Master's Degree of Theology. On June 19, 1965 Father was Ordained to the Holy Priesthood. He served as a minister in Poland for several years. In August 1974, Father was sent to the USA and in November 1974 he was transferred to the Canadian Diocese. On November 16, 1974 he was sent to Winnipeg to serve the St. Mary's Parish Polish National Catholic Church in Winnipeg and the St. Joseph's Missions Polish National Catholic Church in Beausejour and Libau, Manitoba. For a period of time he also served a parish in Mikado, Saskatchewan. Father also served as the Chaplain for The Royal Canadian Legion #246 in Winnipeg. June 19, 1979, Father was elevated to position of Senior of the Canadian Diocese of the Polish National Catholic Church. In May 2011 due to his deteriorating health, Father was forced to retire. Initially Father was at home with the help of the home care service and Sylvia. As time progressed and he could no longer get around or feed himself, we were fortunate enough to get him into the Charleswood Care Centre and in November 2013 to the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, his initial preference. We wish to thank the home care personnel as well as the staff at both personal care homes for the companionate care they gave Father during his stay at their facilities. Prayers will be on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, 365 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 360 McIvor Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Donations may be made to St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church Cemetery Fund. 204-586-8044

  • Rev. Cwieka was a wonderful individual, as when I was working on my family genealogy for Mikado, he helped me immensely and I was able to complete my research because of his helpfulness. My grandfather just happened to be the individual who contributed financially so that the little church in Mikado, Saskatchewan could be built. - Posted by: Linda (Derkacz) Toews (One time member at church in Mikado, Saskatchewan where Rev. served.) on: Oct 22, 2014
