BARBARA E. LAMB
Born: Jan 17, 1929
Date of Passing: Oct 18, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA E. LAMB Peacefully, on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the age of 85, loving mother of Tanis of Winnipeg, Tara (William Shaddy) of Sarasota, FL and Jon (Jennifer Stockford) of Winnipeg and proud grandmother of Stafford Shaddy, Elyot Lamb and Caledon Lamb. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack, sisters Margaret Woodward and Janice Smith and brothers Jack, Walter, Jim, Joe and Harvey Allan. Barbara was from rural Manitoba, born into a farming family near Rathwell, Manitoba. Together with her teacher's certificate from Normal School in Winnipeg and her adventurous spirit, Barbara answered a newspaper advertisement looking for teachers to go to the remote northern community of The Pas (remote in 1954). In the 1950s driving north on gravel roads, her parents wondered what crazy challenge Barbara was signing up for. Shortly after arriving in The Pas, Barbara was introduced to the Lamb family of the "Flying Lambs" fame and specifically, to Jack. Barbara was a co-pilot in life with Jack. Even an actual co-pilot navigating a DC3 over the Himalayas while Jack was at the controls. Truly a confident and able partner, Barbara was ready and willing to take on any adventure or new experience. Not only was Jack "max flex" but so was Barbara- a dynamic duo who enjoyed life for all it offered. Through the years business travels took them to Afghanistan, Iran, Ghana, Africa, Falkland Islands and vacation travels throughout Europe, Asia, South America, the US and Canada. Barbara volunteered and worked many careers ranging from- teaching grades elementary through high school, operating room nurse, dental assistant, flight attendant, nursery school kitchen manager, summer lodge manager and store clerk- whatever was needed, Barbara pitched in. From her roots in Rathwell, Barbara moved on to The Pas, Thompson, Churchill, Winnipeg, London, ON, Brampton, ON and Rankin Inlet, Nunavut before retiring to Winnipeg. An avid crossword puzzle player right up to her final hours, her children, Tanis, Tara and Jon were constantly surprised at the answers Mom would casually and effortlessly announce. Lots of laughter ensued when the answer involved a pun- Mom was always the first one to get it. This would amaze and please us all. Give Barbara a crossword anytime. According to her wishes, after donating her remains to University of Manitoba Department of Medicine, her final resting spot will be at St. Vital Cemetery alongside husband Jack and sister Janice. We would like to thank the staff and friends at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their kindness and care during Mom's stay.

I met Barbara and Jack in Rankin Inlet in 1995. Barbara worked with me as my dental assistant. She was a wonderful woman that was easy to talk to and willing to learn. She introduced me to Jack which I still remember how a true gentleman he was. He truly loved her and used to bring her lunch when he was around. Good times and beautiful memories I had with both. - Posted by: Haysam Shaaban (Dentist) on: Feb 28, 2024

I was always told I was named after Barbara Allan, which I assumed was the old folk son. I recently viewed the 1931 census and saw that my dad who was 21 at the time worked for Barbara's parents on their farm. Barbara was only 2 so she must've stolen his heart. Anyway, my name is Barbara Ellen and named after your mom. The name has served me well. After reading her obituary, we had a lot in common. Strange thing that. Anyway, thought I'd share that and I'm so glad now I know the real reason I was named Barbara Ellen - unusual for a French family. - Posted by: Barbara Sherstone (namesake) on: Jun 14, 2023

My first 'job' was to join the Lamb family at Lambair in 1977, and it certainly was joining a family! They treated you more like a daughter than a worker. I've enjoyed keeping in touch over the years through Tanis, and have many fond memories of Barb & Jack and family. RIP. Sincere condolences to Tanis, Tara, and Jon and families. - Posted by: Tracy Dunstan (Friend) on: Nov 21, 2014

Sending our sympathies to Tanis, Tara, Jon, and families. Your Mom always made me feel welcome and part of the family when I was younger and living in The Pas. When I was a young adult, living in Winnipeg, both your Mom and Dad kept their eye out for me. I so appreciated them. Praying for you as you go through this sad time. On behalf of the Sheane family, please accept our deepest sympathy. Our mother Jo who passed away in late August was a friend to Jack and Barbara and we were so please that Barbara was well enough to attend Mom's service in September. Mom especially enjoyed her visits with both Jack and Barbara during the summer months at Clearwater Lake. To the Family, Blessings. Your Mom was a lovely woman and our Mom so thought highly of her. - Posted by: Juanita Giesbrecht (Friend) on: Oct 30, 2014

I met Barbara and Jack in Rankin Inlet and they both became very good friends. They are both true northerners caring not where you come from but rather who you are. They side stepped the artificial barriers that "class" in society sometime yields, and focussed on the individual. I miss Jack Lamb and now I will miss Barbara too. All my best to the family.
