MARGARET ELEANOR HORN (nee AITKEN) Margaret passed away peacefully Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband August, parents Adeline Maude and John Aitken and sisters, Lois Fast and Elsie Corbeil. Margaret was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on February 24, 1920 and spent her early years in Oak Lake, Manitoba. Her schooling took place in Oak Lake and Brandon. Margaret was employed with the Federal Government in Brandon, Swift Current and Ottawa. She also worked for Ryder Transportation Company in Toronto and Winnipeg. On December 20, 1957 Margaret married August Horn. They lived, farmed and were active members of the Oak Bluff community. They retired from farming in 1971 and moved to Winnipeg in 1988. After retirement Margaret and August spent many winters in Texas. Margaret enjoyed her involvement in numerous organizations including the Horticultural Society, Women's Institute, and the 4-H Club. She was the recipient of the Queen's Silver Anniversary Medal in recognition of her participation as a 4-H leader. Curling at the Pembina Curling Club and golfing were favourite past-times of Margaret's. She was an honorary life member of the Pembina Curling Club Ladies League. Margaret also enjoyed playing bridge and going to the Re-Fit Centre. She is survived by Katie Horn, Leo Horn, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She appreciated all of the visits, calls, flowers and letters she received while in hospital. Donations can be made in her memory to Trinity United Church or the Victoria General Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Permack, Scott and the staff on 4N at the Victoria General Hospital for the attentive care they provided. Margaret will be remembered for her open, curious and determined attitude towards life. She saw the good in all people. Margaret lived a good and full life. She will be missed. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interment will be at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba.
