Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE (KAY) KORMYLO It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine (Kay) Kormylo (nee Flees) on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Holy Family Home, age 96 years. Kay was born in Winnipeg on Oct 12, 1918. She was raised and educated in East Kildonan and resided on Larsen Avenue until she entered Holy Family Home in February 2012. Family and friends knew her by Kay. In her early years she was employed with Paulin Chambers where she met Peter Kormylo. They married in 1943. She was later employed with Eatons where she worked in small appliances, Toyland and lighting, for a duration of 35 years, until her retirement in 1982. Kay was a lifelong member of Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church where her grandparents and parents were pioneer members, and she was a dedicated member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League for 65 years. For 25 years she was also an active member of the Holy Family Home Ladies' Auxiliary and held various positions on the auxiliary including canteen convenor, tea co-convenor and 2nd vice-president. She enjoyed coming out every Monday to sing in the choir and visit with friends. For 20 years she ran the perogy group at Holy Eucharist and was also a member of their Senior's Club. In July 1988 she travelled to Rome as a member of the Millennium Choir where travels took her through Italy, Yugoslavia, Russia and Ukraine. This trip held many special memories for her. Kay is survived by her sister, Sonya of Guelph ON; nieces, Carol (Dennis), Virginia (John), Patti, Paula (Greg) of Ariss, ON and Denise (NB); nephews, Tom (Lana) Kormylo, Douglas (Mississauga), Gerald, and Laurin (NB); grandnieces and nephews, Lisa, Sean and Kyla Tomlinson, Douglas (Connie, and son Evan) Fleese and Margaret (Kevin, son and daughter Conor and Katie) Hickey; and many more nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, her husband Peter (1979); parents, Peter and Anna; sister, Mary; brothers, George and Michael; sister-in-law, Florence and brother-in-law, Joe Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue at Watt Street with Fr. M. Kwiatkowski officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Special thank-you to Sister Charlene, Sister Oresta, Sister Ruth and Maria Kowch, Pastoral Care and the Holy Family Home 4A Staff for the special care and deep respect she received from everyone there. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue at Watt St. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
