ANASTASSIA KOWALCHUK Anastassia passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2014 at the age of 93. Anastassia was born in Krasnolisy, Kyiv oblast, Ukraine. She suffered greatly though the famine in Ukraine, Holodomor, under the Communist regime and through the Second World War. Anastassia was preceded in death by both her first and second husbands, as well as her son Viktor to whom she referred to as her "heart and soul." Left to cherish her memory are her grandson Viktor in Ukraine; stepchildren, Peter (Pat) Kowalchuk, Sylvia Bector; George Kowalchuk; their children, Kevin (Nancy) Kowalchuk, Trevor (Kristi) Kowalchuk, Karyn (Russ) Danielson, Sarah Bector; numerous grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. Anastassia was a dedicated member of the St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and the Kniahynia Olha Branch, Ukrainian Women's Association of Canada (UWAC). Faith in God, passion for our Ukrainian culture and love of family gave her strength and joy. She placed her trust in the love and care which surrounded her at Holy Family Home. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23 at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery.
