FRANCO S. DI QUINZIO December 26, 1933 October 20, 2014 Following a lengthy illness, Franco passed away on October 20, 2014 at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 80 years. Dad will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years Assunta, his children Lucy (Kevin) Mulligan and John (Karen) Di Quinzio, his grandchildren Stephanie and Katie Di Quinzio, Cliff and Steven Otte, Trevor and Hailey Mulligan and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents Giovanni and Lucia Di Quinzio and his brother-in-law Vinenzo Matricardi. At the age of 18 he served for two years in the Italian army. After military he started in the construction industry in Italy. He came to Canada through a sponsorship from Uncle Vincenzo Matricardi on November 11, 1963 at the age of 29. When he arrived he had enough money to last a month and did not understand one word of English. Once he arrived work was difficult to find and he spent two years working at the Winnipeg International Airport. After a short term at the airport he started working construction as a brick layer. This he did for the next 25 years until he was forced to retire due to health issues. He made many, many friends. Dad spent countless hours supporting local non-profit charities like the Roma club, where he was secretary treasurer for years. When Dad was healthy he was a very vibrant man who absolutely loved to socialize. He always had a great time with family and friends. Dad loved his family and loved to spend time with family and friends at Oasis Beach in Kenora and making trips to Italy. He absolutely loved the holidays like Christmas where family and friends got together and had fabulous meals and played cards...blackjack was his game...and boy did he take risks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with Rev. Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. • My Dad, Remo Di Quinzio, was Franco's cousin. My Dad settled in Montreal and reading a little bit of Franco's story made me think of my Dad.
