Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA EVELYN MACAULAY April 8, 1928 - October 16, 2014 Peacefully, in her own home, surrounded by loving family on October 16, 2014 Evelyn passed to her great graduation and homecoming where she now dwells with her soulmate Rod in the House of the Lord forever. Evelyn was welcomed into the world as the bells rang on Easter morning, April 8, 1928 at Pincher Creek, Alberta. She was raised on a farm at nearby Fishburn by her parents Gladys (nee McRae) and James Taylor. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Jim (Sophie) and husband Rev. Rod MacAulay. She is survived by sister Donna of Edmonton. She is lovingly remembered by her eldest daughter Lynda Stephenson (Keith) of Calgary and triplets Gail MacAulay (Kevin Rollason) of Winnipeg, Phyllis Thordarson (Philip) of Langruth, MB, and Janice Jones (Mark) of Jourdanton, TX; grandchildren Mercedes Stephenson, Sarah and Mary Rollason-MacAulay, Heather Jordan (Tyler), Theresa and Rod Thordarson, Richard Jones (Meagan), Neil Jones (Dallas), Paul and Sean Jones, and great-grandchildren Gideon and Greta Jones, and Micaiah and Teya Jones. She married the love of her life, Rod in 1950 and raised four daughters. Evelyn graduated from Mt. Royal College and later received her teaching certificate and B.Ed. from the University of Alberta. She taught Grades 1 to 12 in Alberta, Winnipeg and Halifax specializing in Home Economics. She also worked in the area of nutrition for the City of Halifax. Gifted in teaching, she not only was Director of an inner city literacy program in Halifax, but also volunteered her talents teaching in literacy and nutrition. She was a woman of faith, supporting Rod's ministry and active in the United Church as a choir member, U.C.W. member as well as other church and community committees. She loved to tutor children and adults, believing in them and helping them to achieve their dreams and goals. She also taught piano. For more than 20 years, Evelyn and Rod's earthly paradise in summer was a simple cottage they built facing the Atlantic Ocean at Portuguese Cove. Evelyn believed you shared what you had and was an active supporter of many charities. She was a real lady, gentle but very strong in character and integrity. She loved her family and church. She always put others first and never compromised on values. She and Rod retired to Pincher Creek where they spent the remainder of their days. Memorial donations may be made to Pincher Creek United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.
