ELIZABETH SHANNON Peacefully, after a brief stay at St. Boniface Hospital our mother, Elizabeth Shannon passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. She is survived by her sons, George, Robert and Fred. Our Mom was a great teacher, whether as a professor or a parent, her quiet enthusiasm and zest for life underscored everything she turned her hand to. Her happiness was in the doing. Mom taught in the Department of Clothing and Textiles at the University of Manitoba for over 25 years. Her innovative research into the design of apparel for those with special needs took her to the University of Arizona, her work employing AutoCAD for the Apparel Industry took her to the National Research Council's Canadian Institute of Industrial Technology. As a friend, mentor, or as our Mom she was a tower of strength, whose loyalty and wisdom powered her formidable resolve. Whether at a Blue Bombers game, the opera or symphony she enjoyed life and her sense of humour rarely deserted her. She was an inveterate traveller who also loved to be at home. We will all miss Betty S. Plans for a celebration of Elizabeth's life are ongoing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lake Winnipeg Foundation, 300-207 Fort Street, Winnipeg, MB Canada R3C 1E2. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

We were saddended to hear of Betty's passing. As summer neighbors of Betty at Matlock we shared her love of "the lake". Betty was such a good neighbor! She seemed always to be present either puttering in her yard or on the deck reading a book. We will miss her!! Our condolences to the Shannon family. - Posted by: Charlotte/John Rendall (Friend) on: Oct 27, 2014

Professor Shannon had a profound effect on my life. While she was my main advisor for my graduate work, she was so much more than that for me. She was a witty, intellectual, strong, independent woman who was also approachable and caring to her students. What a great role model for a young woman to have! I was so fortunate and forever grateful she believed in me and pushed me to finish my thesis work even when it looked like life was getting in the way of its completion. She never gave up on me, and she wouldn't let me give up either. I can't thank her enough. - Posted by: Laurel Shea (Prendergast) (Graduate Clothing &Textiles student) on: Oct 26, 2014

Elizabeth Shannon had a more profound effect on me than any other professor at U.of M. I enrolled in every class she taught and enjoyed her expertise, her wit, and her sense of humor. So sorry to hear of her passing. - Posted by: Joan Neal (Lelond) (Human Ecology student) on: Oct 25, 2014
