Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I would like to send my condolences to Ken's family. He was a great friend of my parents for many years, and I appreciated having the chance to learn what a wonderful person he was. - Posted by: Orly Estein (Family friend) on: Nov 01, 2014

  • Ken was one of my main supervisors during my articling year with Arpin & Company in 1982-83. I remember him as a decent human being, good to work with, capable of being very funny in a quiet, understated way. I very much appreciated that year, working with him, the trust and confidence he showed in me (which made me want to do even better work for him). During that year, or more likely in the year or so after, the offices of the firm were burgled. If memory serves, we arrived in the morning to a broken door, some missing items and shortly thereafter, some police officers conducting their investigation. Just when they were beginning to think that we had been fortunate that the burglars had not trashed the place, an officer happened upon Ken's office. "Oh, but they've done a number on this one!" he exclaimed. Judith Storey, who was his legal assistant, informed the officer that this was the office's usual state. Ken smiled a little ruefully, and we all had a good laugh (Ken too). Richard Rice enjoyed retelling this story for quite a while. I have been far away from Winnipeg and had not seen Ken for years, but remember Ken with fondness. My sympathies to his loved ones. - Posted by: Edgar Schmidt (Former articling student and colleague) on: Oct 30, 2014

  • Ken provided me with legal opinions several years ago and we had many conversations afterwards at THE BEACH. Always a gentleman and I was proud to call him my friend. You will be missed ..... - Posted by: Paul LAMOTTE (Client & Friend) on: Oct 30, 2014

  • Sorry we all weren't closer - literally and figuratively. Your parents were always warm and kind to me. Sad to hear about this. Had no idea - thought he was doing so well. Love from Mother and me - she'll be 100 in Feb. If any of you are in Vancouver at that time call me for the 'get together' info.
